Grieving Taxes
If you buy a house for $425K (in suffolk Co) and the current taxes are based on an assessed value of $525K, I'm guessing this is a pretty good case for grieiving your taxes, right?
I'm really new to all of this and I know it's not a guarantee that the town/county(?) will lower our taxes. But if they do...is there anyway to figure out by how much they will be lowered?
Thanks!

Re: Grieving Taxes
yeah, you would think that would make sense.
My house is being assessed for almost $100K MORE than what we paid and our grievance was denied
we are using a tax grievance service, who thought my case was a slam dunk, apparently not
so they are fighting the decision.
there is a grievance day for the town of brookhaven, which is in may i believe.

Re: Grieving Taxes
we successfully greived ours. I knew by looking at MLSLI & also zillow, propertyshark at similar houses in my neighborhood what my neighbors are paying. we were paying much more. we underpaid for our house so i don't know why brookhaven would care that we got a good deal

tell me about it you have to laugh though, the town is nutso!
eta: and even crazier, is that in our neighborhood the houses are all the same. there are three different styles, but on my block they are all the same and most people have added on and our taxes are still higher.
