Grrr....SO not happy with circuit city
I bought DH a flight simulator game there vor valentines day. Then, while looking for the controller online, came across some reviews that said the game doesn't run right unless you have a top of the line gaming computer. SO, I needed to return it.
I dug it out of the drawer I hid it in today only to find that the receipt is missing. I have no idea where it is because I could SWEAR I left it in the bag incase DH decided he didn't want it.
Anyway, I headed out to Circuit City fully expecting to be offered store credit or an exchange since I didn't have the receipt. I handed over the game (that still has the Circuit City price and bar code sticker attached and is wrapped in plastic and still in the original Circuit City shopping bag it was handed over to me in) and was told that unless I paid with a credit card or gave them my phone number (which, I am told, they don't ask for unless your purchase is over $100) there is nothing they can do, and I am stuck with this game that I cannot use.
We asked to speak to the manager (actually DH did because I was having a bad day already and this put me over the edge so I walked out saying I'd contact the corporate offices). The assistant manager went to get him and came back saying that he was unavailable and there's nothing they can do, they don't take back software without a receipt.
So I came home and wrote to them through the website. If they have this abnormal and strict policy, they should have it posted or verbally relay it to the customer when the item is purchased!
I would've used any store credit towards a high-end camera purchase in their store. Now my money will be spent elsewhere.
Thanks for letting me VENT!!

I am so sorry this happened. We just drove past the Circuit City by us and realized, they shut down! I was never really a fan anyway. We like Best Buy or PC Richard. Again, Im sorry this happened.

hmmm...
I have to say I worked in Retail. People (not saying you) are known to steal things and then bring them in to be returned!
I acutally have a friend (haven't seen her in a year) who is addicted to Heroin and this is how she buys her drugs.
I think it S*cks but if that is their policy that's their policy!
Can you peel the sticker off and try another store?

If you're not completely satisfied with a product, Circuit City will gladly exchange or refund the purchase within 30 days of the sale date, except as noted below.
Opened software, music, games, and movies may be exchanged for the same title only. Understandable. Otherwise, you could just "buy" the software, copy it, then return it. But, this doesn't apply to your case...
For in-store purchases, refunds are issued in the original payment type.
In other words, the manager is just being a big baby...

That's what DH wants to do- I figured I'd try the corporate thing first- if I was just trying to pull one over on them, I wouldn't bother writing to corporate so I guess I felt I had to make my point.
I hate that slimeballs have to ruin it for honest people like myself.
I understand the whole "It's their policy" thing- but they should have something like that posted in plain sight. (not that would've helped me NOT lose the receipt that was just my own stupidity)
Plus I wasn't expecting my money back- just store credit.
I think they just got me on an already shiitty day...so it bothers me more.

AND it also says this...
For any exchange or refund, we need the original receipt or a record of the purchase in our system, and the product must be in its original condition, including the box, UPC bar code, packaging, and all accessories.

I never said it was or wasn't. I hold on to my receipts. For a long time I worked in retail at customer service!

No, there is a lot more to the policy you didn't quote:
I think this is the applicable portion of the return policy that you didn't mention in your post is:
For any exchange or refund, we need the original receipt or a record of the purchase in our system, and the product must be in its original condition, including the box, UPC bar code, packaging, and all accessories.
If the OP didn't pay with a traceable payment method (e.g., CC) and doesn't have a receipt, it would be against the policy.
I wonder, however, what the policies are relating to having to post the return policies or having to tell the customers. I think I remember Best Buy posting the return policy (and also the Circuit City I've been to), but I honestly can't be sure... and that doesn't mean all stores do.
Sorry this is happening to you! I'm hoping you just find that darn receipt somewhere soon!!
I'd call corporate and ask what the policy is regarding posting the return policy. I would assume you might get less back without the receipt (lowest price offered in past 60 days or whatever), but i'd think something that severe would be posted. Not sure!
So sorry - good luck!

Re: Grrr....SO not happy with circuit city
I can't stand this store. I had an issue with them over 25 friggin dollars about 8 yrs ago and have not stepped foot in their store again.
I know they don't miss ME, but I feel better not giving them any of my money. Good Luck I hope you find the receipt and get a refund.
