GUESS WHAT?! - UPDATED
AF arrived on her own this morning!!! After a 68 day cycle, she showed! I've never been so happy to see her arrive into town.
I know that I have PCOS (just diagnosed last week), but since AF arrived on her own without meds, this means I ovulated - correct? This is good news - right?!?
I go to the RE on the 16th, and hopefully this MIGHT make my TTC process a little bit easier. I hope....

Re: GUESS WHAT?!
Congrats! It is possible that you ovulated or had an anovulatory cycle. Unfortunately there's no way to know. Unless - when was your sono?

Thanks for the info. Obviously, I'm not as educated as you girls and need some info.
How can you get your period and not ovulate? What is an anovulatory cycle?
My sono was done on December 20th, but that dumb doctor didn't give me much info from it. Just that I had cysts on my ovaries (and confirmed PCOS).

Re: GUESS WHAT?!
Just found this online...probably what is happening in my case
n anovulatory cycles, non-charting women may assume they are menstruating normally, so why would they continue to experience bleeding if ovulation has not occurred? Such bleeding results when estrogen production continues to develop the uterine lining without reaching the threshold necessary to trigger ovulation. In such a case, one of two things may happen, which leads to what appears to be a menstrual period.
Either the estrogen will build up slowly to a point below the threshold and then drop, resulting in "estrogen withdrawal bleeding," or more commonly, the endometrium builds up slowly over an extended period of time, eventually to the point where the resulting uterine lining is so thickened it can no longer sustain itself. This is known as "estrogen breakthrough bleeding." In either case, if you weren't charting, you might think you were simply menstruating, though you would maybe notice a difference in the type of bleeding. Specifically the flow can be either unusually heavy or light and of course, the timing can result in cycle lengths all over the map (or the chart).
How would I know? Guess it's too late to tell since I didn't have sonogram prior. UGH! I can't wait to go to my first appointment to my RE.

Re: GUESS WHAT?!
I would call your RE and tell them you just started AF. Maybe they can get you in a little earlier so you can do CD3 tests.
There really is no way to tell if you ovulated at this point. But I would really try to get into the office for an appointment. If they can't take you, maybe your regular gyn can?

I just called the RE and they said NO!! I REALLY need to get this blood work done, I can't believe she said no. She said the doctor needs to see me for my first initial visit before blood work. UGH! I would call my gyno but I walked out of there last time soooo mad at the way he handled my PCOS diagnosis. This is so frustrating!

Re: GUESS WHAT?!
do you have a regular dr that you could ask to give you prescriptions for bloodwork? i'm sure we could tell you most of the basic things that the dr will check for. ETA this way when you finally see the dr you'll have bloodwork in hand and can maybe bypass that portion of waiting again-- or just get whatever other tests they want done.

Could I call my regular GP doctor to have blood work done? Can she test for that stuff? If so, I will call her. I want to bypass all the initial stuff if possible!

Re: GUESS WHAT?!
i don't see why not. they're just ordering bloodwork. i would call them and tell them that you're in the process of being diagnosed w/ PCOS and you're in between drs right now for the pcos, waiting for a consultation from a new dr and can they order the bloodwork for you.

Re: GUESS WHAT?!
I called my regular doctor and she will do blood work for me on Saturday (CD3). She said she'll send the work to my RE then.
However, my GP isn't sure exactly what the RE will need in terms of blood work. What can you recommend I ask the GP to test for? What levels?

that's great--- did the article that I showed you earlier in the week talk about bloodwork at all? It might have what tests are usually asked for. Also I would call your RE and tell them you're going for some routine bloodwork for you GP and want to know which tests are usually requested by your RE. If the staff isn't helpful then ask to leave a message directly for the RE to call you bacn and discuss it w/ them.

Thanks a million - you've been a HUGE help! I'm going to email the RE now to see if I can get a detailed list.

I have a copy of my CD3 blood test results from when I got them the first time I went to the RE. If you want me to, I can look at them when I get home and send them to you. Just let me know
