Had a bit of a wake up call yesterday.
So my baby girl is still in the NICU. She was 7 weeks early and therefore she still has bradycardia's. Her heart rate drops, its a condition that is so common in preemies and she will outgrow it.
so yesterday they had to close her nursery b/c there was construction going on and all you heard all day was jackhammers, so she was moved into Nursery A. Where the most critical babies are.
Well yesterday DH and I were in there and there are literally babies that weight less then a pound. Babies that have severe heart issues.
DH and I were talking and we both said that our baby is so healthy and we are truly blessed that she is as healthy as she is. I mean there are babies in there that have been in there for months and months, were the parents have no idea as to when they are going to go home.
sorry for the ramblings, but I had to get it out of me. My baby girl is beautiful and strong and we are so lucky to have her in our lives.
To the parents of the other babies, my prayers and thoughts are with you.
Sarah

That actually brought tears to my eyes. I think so many people take for granted that they have a healthy baby or will deliver a healthy baby...me included. You really just never know what life is going to bring you.
I hope your little girl can come home to you soon.

all my prayers go out to the families with critically ill children. as well as to those who are struggling with infertility.

Re: Had a bit of a wake up call yesterday.
I hear ya, mine was in NICU as well b/c I was running a low grade fever when I delivered, but my baby was fine.
...but I saw the other babies in there...so tiny, so sick, some less than a pound. I felt so bad for the other mommies...it was heartbraking.

Re: Had a bit of a wake up call yesterday.
I went to school for radiology and we did rotations in hospitals and we would take the xray machine to the nicu and take xrays on these tiny little peanuts. They are sooo small that they can fit in the palm of your hand. Thats why when people made comments on how big my baby was in sonos it didnt bother me, b/c i was so grateful she was healthy. Seeing those little miracles are defiantly eye openers, life is precious and we should be grateful for what we got.

Re: Had a bit of a wake up call yesterday.
Thank you for your message. I do think we take the idea of delivering a healthy, full-term baby for granted. I can't imagine seeing such little, tiny babies in there. It must be very sobering.
Ever since a coworker told me she delivered her son at 5 months (he was just over 1 lb.), I have been grateful for every day our stays put. Her son turned out fine in the end--he is now 18 and going to college. But it must have been very hard for his mother to not know when he could come home.
I hope your baby continues to grow and mature, and comes home with you soon!
