Had first IUI yesterday
I had my first IUI at RS of NY yesterday. It was relatively quick, but it hurt more than I thought it would have. I had read that it was likened to a pap smear, but to me it was more painful than that. Anyway, the sperm count that we were given was 6.8 million. Does that seem sort of low? I see the minimum is 5 million (min of what they like to see), but I've been reading that 10 million is a "better number". Has anyone had an IUI and gotten pg after numbers like that? I did have 2 mature follies from a round of clomid taken during the cycle, so I'm hoping that this increases my chances. If not, I guess it's onto month 14..

Re: Had first IUI yesterday
Best of luck to you!!
I've had IUI's that were very painful also. And then I've had some that didnt hurt at all. I guess it all depends. Try and relax for a while so you'll feel better.
As far as the counts go mine were always on what I thought was the lower side too...around or under 10 million and I was able to get preg twice on those numbers. From what I understand the RE wants to see at least 5 mill....so you're good

Re: Had first IUI yesterday
Good Luck - I hope this is it for you!!
I had no pain at all from my IUI, but I guess it's different for everyone. I had my IUI done at RSofNY too, and the minimum that like to see is 5 million, so I think you are right on target with 6.8 million!! My DH had an obscene count (159 million ) but I only had 1 follie. All you need is 1 spermie and 1 eggie to make it happen, so I think your chances are GREAT!

Re: Had first IUI yesterday
My IUIs were always more painful than a pap. I would get sharp cramps but they only lasted a few minutes and then it was over. I think some people are just more sensitive than others.
I read that above average sperm counts do not equal higher success rates. So as long as the dr isn't worried, you shouldn't worry about that either. Good luck!

Re: Had first IUI yesterday
My two IUIs have hurt a lot. I cramp down as soon as they insert the sperm. I was told at RS of NY that they would like over 10 million BUT they can do it with anything over 5 million. 6 million is on the low side and you may want to talk to them about that if this one doesn't work out. Good luck! Hopefully you won't have to even worry about it again!
