Had my first internal this morning
it wasn't so bad. A little uncomfortable but that's it. I think it hurt more when he pushed on my belly!!!
All he said was that I'm still "long"
I have NO idea what that means. He's so on my last nerve. Do any of you? I asked him if she was in position and he said "he thinks she's head down." Thinks?

Long means your cervix hasn't shorted yet to efface and dilate I do believe.

Good thinking! I was like long, huh???
Long has to be related to your cervix bc they always tell me that my cervix is shortening. Jodi, I "think" the first steps of progression are for the cervix to thin out so I would think you bought yourself a little time. How many more weeks?

I'm due in 2 weeks 5 days. I hope I don't go too much longer - I'm so uncomfortable and tired. Work is getting to me too!

Thinks? He should know for sure when he puts his hand in there! That would frustrate me. Anyhow...I learned that nothing means nothing as far as how you are progressing. I've been 3 cm dialated and 90% effaced for about 2 weeks now...no pains, nothing and my due date is in 1 week and 6 days...
Hopefully next week you will at least get some more specifics!

Didn't mean to sound like a pessimist in my post above at all! What I meant is it really means nothing because here I am walking around A-okay and my SIL was 1 cm and barely effaced and went into labor 2 days later. I wish we all had a crystal ball so that we knew exactly what it all meant!

Exactly! I had no progession at all, i was a fingertip dilated the day I went into labor. So it can go both ways, you can walk around dilated for weeks, or have nothing and have a baby. It's all up to that little baby and your body, You are out of the loop!
So frustrating!!!! Especially for control freaks like me.

Thanks ladies. I'm a total control freak and I need to know what's going on and all this ambiguity is driving me crazy! I just don't like that my doctor never gives me a straight answer about anything.
I know that dilation and effacement mean nothing - you go when your body is ready. I just was mad that he "thinks" she's in position. I would think he'd be able to answer that question definitively!!!

I don't blame you for being annoyed. I would be too. He should know the answer to questions like that. 
I hope things start moving along for you. If it makes you feel any better, I've been 80% thinned/effaced for over 2 weeks now. It means nothing.
