Had my injections class yesterday
I must admit... I am feeling a little overwhelmed and scared. I'll be taking Follistim and Ovidrel. I don't know if I can inject myself in the stomach. It scares me. I know I sound like a baby but I am nervous. Then I'll have to take progesterone after the Ovidrel.
Hopefully, I'll be able to start once AF comes. Cornell isn't doing any IUIs until after the New Year.
Any advice on the injections?

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
you can inject yourself....little tip that helps me - have DH prepare the needle, then prepare the area, take a deep breath, and inject as you are inhaling ...you'll be fine

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
I just went through a Follistim/ Ovidrel/ Lupron protocol for my IVF. The first time I had to give myself injections I was scared to death, but I just held my breath, and went ahead and did it, and you know what, it wasnt that bad!!
I preferred the Follistim since it was in a pen/ cartridge (is that what you have too?). Play with the pen a little bit before you do it, I was surprised the first time when I had to depress it to inject the medication, it just wasnt what I was expecting (didnt hurt or anything, just a bunch of "click, click, click.clicks") which was different then the insulin syringes i had been using for other subcutaneous shots.
Once you get to the ovidrel, it'll be nothing.
Take a deep breath, try not to get overwhlemed, its easier than you think, and remember its all for a a good cause. Best of luck to you!

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
My DH gives me my injections - he is a pro at it by now but I know if I had to do it myself I definitely could. Honestly the first one is the worst because of the anticipation - after that it is nothing.
Good luck

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
The easiest way that I found to do the needle (which REALLY is a piece of cake!!) is to numb the area first with an ice cube. Especially when I had to give them to myself but even when DH gave them to me. The first night I jumped b/c he was coming at me w/ the needle and it scratched my tummy a little before going into my stomach. After that I sat for all of my injections and the ice literally makes you not feel anything. I always prepped the needles by setting the doses and confirming them as well as putting the needle on the pen and then I put the ice where I wanted the injection to go and told Dh when I was ready. You'll do great!!!

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
You get used to it...it seems overwhelming at first. Once you do the first injection, it's a piece of cake. I recommend giving yourself the first injection, it helps you get over it and you realize how easy it is. Plus, you don't have to rely on DH to give you the injections at the same time every day.

DO NOT!!! use this method when you get to progesterone though. The PIO (progesterone in oil) should be warm to go in easy, you know what happens to oil when it cools right. Ouch! I would actually leave the filled needle in my cleavage for a while to warm it up.
I think a class must be so overhwelming. My clinic teaches you as you go and for me that was soooooo much better

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
don't sweat it is so easy you don't even feel it sometimes it burns for a second if you don't let the alcohol dry enough and try to count to 10 before pulling it out to make sure it all goes in

Re: Had my injections class yesterday
Gerty's right...after the first injection, it's nothing...
I think its the anticipation of it all...the build up.
Once you actually do it and see that it doesn't hurt (it really doesn't!!) you will feel much better!!
