Had to take a cold shower, need hot water help
Ok, so DH is a great carpenter but knows squat about a hot water heater. The heater itself was bought by the previous owners in 2002 (so its still relatively new). Last weekend the shower water was cold and we thought it was because of all the laundry & dishwasher cycles going so we didn't think about it. Well today I wake up and turn on the shower and basically I was forced to take a cold shower. Now, I don't know if anything is wrong with it or if it needs to be adjusted or anything. We're going to call my Dad and my SIL's FI to try and come look at it. I don't want to spend a fortune for a plumber when it could be something silly. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? Its not leaking or anything. Thanks

Did you hit the reset button? it may have shut off.
Also, do you have oil heat? Sometimes when you are out, the hot water heater will not heat up the water.

nope, we have electric heat and that's working ok. Stupid question, where is the reset button? I'll have DH try that when he gets home tonight.

We had that happen once - the pilot light went out so it needed to be reset.

Not sure what type of tank you have but mine had a plate on it. when you removed it, then you can reset it. Do you know if yours has one or two plates?

I believe its one plate. So your saying you take that off and there should be a reset button, just hit that and it should work? See, you girls rock and now hopefully I don't have to pay a plumber
Thanks

Re: Had to take a cold shower, need hot water help
We had this issue not too long ago. Found out from the plumber we had come that there was sand, silt, stone, and debris in the plumbing, so they flushed it all out and we had out hot water again!
