Hair designers/those who work in a salon

I am always intrigued by this field! I always ask anyone who cuts or colors my hair, how they fell into this career field. I'd love to hear about your job more!

What you made you decide to jump in the beauty industry?

How long was your schooling?

What are the pros/cons of your job?

Do you ever feel pressure to look a certain way in terms of your hair?

What's the vibe like at your salon?

Has the economy slowed down business, or do you feel it's one of those fields that trudge on?

as far as schooling it was about a year...dont everrrr expect to learn a dang thing from school as far as style or current looks...think 1963 hair lol

yes the economy slowed down since the 90s but if you are good you are okay

pros of job......flexibility ...abliity to be own boss if need be....
cons....the pay...zero benefits and the majority of salons..ie no maternity pay...sick pay...holiday pay.....nada. so you realllllly have to be able to save somehow or have a hubby with health insurance.

as far as a long term career with STABILITY...i would say dont do it.. you break a finger you make nothing kwim? if you are sick you cant pay the rent etc.

but if you truly love it..you can somehow make your ends meet and do hair for a long time

i have been doing hair over 10 years and love hair and clients but the business itself isnt so good to its stylists which makes me sad not only for me but for future talents people.

sorry i couldnt help with other questions!
