Hair Extensions?

Does anyone have hair extensions? If so, what kind do you have and who did you use to get them put in?
I am looking to add some volume to my hair and maybe some length, but I really want to do it right. I don't want anything that looks fake, or worse, damages my own hair.
Anyone have any advice or know of anyone who does it?

TIA!

Re: Hair Extensions?

I had them done a year ago. Biggest mistake of my life. Ruined my hair, waste of money. I had the permenant bonded ones, if you do them, PLEASE do not get this kind, get the clip ones that don't damage your natural hair.

My hair is so damaged even a year later, I regret every minute of it. I spent ALOT of money on these puppies and I cut them out 2 weeks later b/c they were so awful. Looked funny (my hair is fine, so they didn't lay right), they hurt, fell out in clumps, nightmare...total nightmare. FM if you want more info....

Re: Hair Extensions?

I have heard that about the bonded extensions (Aka glued extensioins)
I was hoping to get the kind that clip in with tiny loops- they are called Hair Locs.

Thanks for the advice- I was considering the glue ones because they are cheaper and some people say they are good. But with fine hair I just had a feeling they would be VERY bad for me.

Re: Hair Extensions?

I paid over 1K last year for them...biggest waste of money...EVER. I'm so embarassed that I did it. The next day, people were like, um...your hair is bucked up in some places in the back, it just never laid flat. The color matched perfectly, but my natural hair was really soft, this hair, which was supposed to be the best quality European hair, was not as soft as my own, my FH hated it. Also, you can't run your fingers through your hair if that is something you find yourself doing, you'll loosen the bonds and you'll get a nice clump in your hand. Chat Icon

I even went to a very popular, trendy, upscale place.

You can put the pieces in and out yourself? That is awsome. Where did you get them?

Thanks. I'm desperate over here. I have three weeks to my wedding and my hair needs to grow 4-5 inches to do anything decent with it. I'm willing to try anything.

How do you match them up with your own hair color when ordering?

Re: Hair Extensions?

I had them put in for my wedding but I just bought them at a place in Baldwin (can't think of the name right now - it was close to SState Pkway and Taralei recommended it). At the store they matched the pieces up to my hair. Taralei then cut and weaved the pieces into my up-do. No glue necessary!

& I really liked the way my hair came out! Chat Icon

Here is a pic of my up do w/ extensions...

ETA - I just realized that you probably want them for "everyday" and not a special occasion... hmmm, I guess I am not really a help then. You could go to a store that sells them (like Rickys in NYC) and ask them where they recommend you go. I think they would know better than anyone! Good luck!

Re: Hair Extensions?

the professional ones i loved. they were braided in. a few on top in front were glued in.

i loved them but they only lasted 2 months--- and that was stretching it.

my friend did it for free but i think it would have been $2500

Re: Hair Extensions?

You just have to realize that extensions are a tremendous amount of upkeep.

They look awesome when you first get them, but they grow out, fall out, and sometimes rip your hair. They become hard to wash and brush thru.

If you do them, you HAVE to stay on top of them. Otherwise they will look like Britney Spears ala Matt Lauer interview. And noone wants that. Chat Icon
