Re: Hair Pics

I'm so tempted to just be spontaneous and go tomorrow!! It's probably nuts on the weekend though - do you make an appt? Do you just show up? How early?

The funny thing is that my Aunt has been getting her hair straightened there for like 2 years I think -- long before anyone mentioned it on here -- and she lives all the way out in oakdale and travels to them. she swears by them.

Wow. that is a trip. I found out about them from someone on LIW(forgot her name). The hair village is supposed to be good, but you don't get the personalized service that you would get in TP!!

I made an appt. I went on a thursday. GOt there at 9:30 and left at 3:36. If you are driving, get there early because parking in that area is a pain. If you live in Queens, see if you can get dropped off or take public transportation. The LIRR is a near them.

Re: Hair Pics

what just fm'ed someone about an hour ago

No appt is necessary but I guess you can call and set one up. GO FIRST THING EARLY MORNING. THEN YOU WILL FIND PARKING IN THE PARKING LOT 1/2 BLOCK AWAY. IF YOU GO IN THE AFTERNOON LIKE I DID, I CIRCLED FLUSHING FOR AN HOUR, THEN WAITED IN THE PARKING LOT FOR A SPOT FOR ANOTHER HOUR
Flushing is extremely congested. Lot of traffic in the afternoon. For the parking lot, its a quarter for every 10 minutes, 3 hours limit. So you have to go out in the middle of doing your hair once or twice. So bring many quarters.

I really dont believe they do consultations and I'm not sure if you can get it done with highlighted hair. What I would do is go to a salon that does consultations. In many, I think most, places they are free. See what they say. If they say you're good to go, then go to Top Point This salon uses the Lisico (sp?) Japanese straightening.

When you first get it done for 72 hours you cant wash or touch it. So yes its stick straight and flat. But after you wash it and air dry it, its straight and flowy. You can blowdry your hair upside down for more volume.

I have really curly, thick hair. Think Kerri Russel from the show Felicity but frizzier. Anyway, i just wash my hair and airdry it and its perfectly straight. Or many times I curl the ends to have a soft curl look, think Jessica Simpson. The curls hold in my hair. But that might be because I have thick hair, I don't know. But, I think Beth1210 also said she can curl her hair with no problem.

JS is not like chemical relaxing. That makes your hair dry and brittle. JS made my hair shinier and healthier!!!!It's great.

Re: Hair Pics

Ok, couple of more questions.
I know you can't like, put it back for the 72 hours, wash it or anything. But what about when you sleep. If you end up sleeping on it weird, will it get funny kinks in it? Or what do you do to keep that from happening?

Also, the train is nearby? Would that be a PITA way to get there?

It won't get any kinks in it.

The NO. 7 train is nearby. So is the LIRR. Honestly, I took the LIRR. It is like going into the city. Parking is a PITA.
