half-marathon in 2 months doable?

A friend talked me into a half-marathon down South in 2 months. I haven't done this distance in several years. I regularly run 10K but I am not sure that 2 months is enough time to train for the extra mileage.

It's a flat course. Usually no more than 450 participants. I don't want to be last lol.

Thoughts? Advice?

I think its doable, though I may not race it too hard. I am doing Manhattan Half in less than two months and haven't really been training either--I'm doing it, not racing it though.

Take a look at Hal Higdon's novice schedule. Its 12 weeks long but maybe you can start this week at Week 5?

Definitely is doable! I trained for mine in 9 weeks. I was coming off an injury so I didnt have a strong base either. I made up my own training plan... if you want specifics FM me but it was basically increasing my "long" run by 1 mile every week, and doing 2 other short runs that I also gradually increased every week. I finsihed in 1:57.

Definitely doable if you're already doing 6.2!

I agree with this.

ETA: If you can already do 6.2, I would just increase your long runs by a mile per week, until you reach 10-11 miles. I don't usually train any higher than that for a half.

Thanks ladies! Reading the responses makes me feel like I can do this. I was really worried I bit off more then I could chew in too short of time.

I least I'll be working off those Christmas cookies. Chat Icon

Re: half-marathon in 2 months doable?

I did a half marathon last year training in 4 months

BUT

When I started, I could barely run a mile! So I would say it took me the first month to even be able to run 5 miles without stopping (very slowly).

The last 2 months is when I really added the distance - so I think you should be fine!!!

Just listen to your body and slow it down to get your mileage up. Once you can handle the increase in total time running/total miles, then work on increasing your speed.

Even if you end up walking a little on the big day, it will still be a huge accomplishment! Good for you - and Good luck!
