Hard Boiled Egg Help!

I've been making hard boiled eggs lately to bring to work for breakfast.

When I go to make them I often break the second egg that I put in the pot.

What could I be doing wrong? I've been making hard boiled eggs for a long time and never had this problem. I am though using a new stove with a ceramic cooktop that I'm not quite used to yet. Could it be that?

Any tricks you care to share?

Start with cold water. Fill pot with enough to cover eggs. Bring to a boil. Shut off heat and cover for 10 minutes. Perfect hard boiled egss every time.

Re: Hard Boiled Egg Help!

Hmm not sure why they would be breaking but here is my no fail method.

Put all the eggs in the pot that you want to cook. Then fill it with water just until the eggs are covered. Put it on the stove and bring it to a boil. Let it boil for 1 minute. Take it off the heat, cover and let it sit for 20 minutes. Perfect hard boiled eggs every time and you really do not have to drop them in the pot. (no worries about breaking them)

I normally just use a spoon to gently lower the eggs into the pot of boiling water. I've never had any issues.

I do something very similar the only difference is I use whatever type of water (normally warm) and they also come out perfect.
