Hard Drive Video Camera
Anyone have one? What do you think of it?
I had never heard of them til we were in Best Buy yesterday replacing our old DVC that crapped out. Luckily it was covered by a service plan so were able to replace it, but DH upgraded to a JVC hard drive model. It has no tapes or disks, just a 20G memory.
I hope its not extra work for me downloading hours of video and burning!
thoughts?

Re: Hard Drive Video Camera
hard drive cameras just need to be transferd to computer so you can edit.
mini dv (most popular) requires transfer but its by time, so if you recorded 1 hour of video, you need 1 hour to transfer. harddrive will reduce the time by 60% or so..(i can be wrong)
True hard drive recording is expensive (i seen price go for about 700 just for the hard drive add on alone) I didn't know on a consumer level they have intergrated products

Re: Hard Drive Video Camera
We have a JVC Everio and we LOVE IT! We originally got it because we found we weren't taking our regular video camera with us because it was too big, but this JVC just fits in my purse. I haven't used it really to edit on the computer, we just burned it onto a DVD and it was really easy and the quality was amazing! It can also record in regular or widescreen

Yes this is it! I'm glad to hear you love it! I was afraid it would mean more work for me, burning etc but it sounds pretty easy.
Thanks for the feedback!
