Has anyone appealed their tax assessment in Nassau County?
I am planning on appealing my assessment based on the fact that we paid A LOT less for our house in April than the current assessed value. I went to the website today and one of the criteria for an appeal is that your home is overvalued compared to recent home sales in your area. Clearly my home is overassessed considering how much less we paid for it.
I am just wondering, if anyone has filed an appeal, and whether or not they were successful.

I haven't, but a friend of mine who lives in Manhasset Hills did and she said it was successful. They saved a couple hundred dollars on their taxes last year.
We'll probably try to do it next year. She told me not to waste money going through a lawyer (we've already received a ton of letters from lawyers offering this service) they were able to do it on their own.

I have gotten tons of letters as well - but I went on the website today and they made it seem fairly easy. I hope I am successful. Our taxes are INSANE.

Here is the weblink
It seems like it's not that difficult to do. I am going to call them today and find out more.

I did this (in Suffolk) but I imgine it's the same process. My neighbor used a lawyer, I did the legwork myself. I put together a package of surrounding houses (it helped that I kept them from my househunting days), wrote a brief letter explaining why I felt my taxes should be reassessed (they were $1k-2k MORE than surrounding homes of equal value) and lastly, added photos of my property.
In the end, our taxes were reduced byt a little more than $2k!
