Has anyone applied for Building Permits in Town of Islip???
If so, how long did it take for you to get them? DH and I were told that the TOI is very strict and the process usually takes ridiculously long. Has anyone gone through it?

I am applying through the town of oyster bay and the architects predicts 8-12 weeks if you don't have any connections.

Re: Has anyone applied for Building Permits in Town of Islip???
I'm TRYING to get through TOI permit process.....
Filed a variance since the addition is too close to the back fence. Fine, we knew that. Town reviewed the paperwork, and the variance got approved. Filed for permit, and town denies the permit since the house is too tall.... 28' limit measured from the street.... our 23.5' house is on a 5.5' slope.... oh, and the driveway is 4% too big..... next variance hearing is the 17th. The permit guy said that since he had the paperwork already, once he got the variance approval, he would put it at the top of his stack, and it shouldn't take too long. My architect is estimating about 4 weeks from the variance approval until we get the permit.

What a PITA...it seriously aggravates me that we have to get permission to build on our owned property

GoldenRod are you extending on your 2-story house or adding a 2nd story?

Our contractor got our permit for the extension on our home in Islip. I am pretty sure it took 2-3 months.
ETA: I got the C of O myself and thought they were very helpful. The building inspectors were strict enough, but that worked to our benefit.

Extending the existing 2-story. Basically pulling the wall out about 30 feet, following the existing lines of the house.

Remember not too long ago, they basically fired everyone for corruption. They are strict right now because all eyes are on them. They can't mess up.
