Has anyone been to the Aquarium at Coney Island?
I was thinking of taking 1yo DS this weekend.
A few co-workers told me that Coney Island was a dump. I've never been there.

I haven't been there in years, but it was always very "modest". I wouldn't say dump, but its no seaworld.
The Aquarium is sort of separate from the Coney Island attractions, which have a tad more "dumpy" ambiance.

are you talking about the ny aquarium? we went there about two months ago and we werent thrilled at all. It was an hour drive for us and i was very disappointed. There wasnt much to do we were in and out in about 30min....we ended up walking the boardwalk after

The aquarium is small but fun. As far as Coney Island being a dump, well it has a questionable areas but I'm not sure if you're asking if the aquarium is a dump? The area is run down and has been for years but they are slowly trying to fix it up.

We just went and we were done in under 1 hour...not much to see. If you're looking for something to make a day trip out of, this is not it.

The aquarium is great. We have had a membership to the bronx zoo for 2 years now and it includes admission to the aquarium. We happen to really like it. I have had several people tell me they think it is better than Atlantis (but I can't comment b.c I haven't been there).
It is mostly indoors but you must walk between buildings. I would say it is 85% indoors. There is also a sea lion show.
We haven't walked around that area so I can't comment. We drive to there park at the aquarium parking and then leave, so I have comments on the area.
It is a morning thing not a whole day. We are usually out in 2 hours.

We liked the ny aquarium better than the riverhead one. #1 is it is soo much cheaper and it has basically the same things.

Yes, I am talking about the NY Aquarium.
I have always wanted to check out Coney Island. It's been on the bottom of my to visit list for more than a decade.

The aquarium isn't bad...if you go on a nice day you can def walk the boardwalk afterwards which is nice..Coney Island the amusement park well I'm not even sure if it's still operating at this point bc of them building there...the area by the aquarium is not a bad area, there is a park across the street that is mainly russian, and the immediate area is mainly Russian, if you go further down into coney island, away from Brighton Beach you'll get into a more seedy area...

The aquarium isn't bad at all. We've been there a few times. We walked on the boardwalk once afterward and it was after the Mermaid parade so that was quite interesting.
