Has anyone donated a car?
DH and I are replacing his car (not the best condition but driveable). We would like to donate it to charity and I was wondering if anyone here has one they have donated to?

i dontated them to "Heritage for the Blind"
they give you a tax paper for the blue book value of the car

we donated ours to the Diabetes foundation.
I found a lot of the 'donation places' were not really giving to the 'cause they support'....so we went to the website of the ACTUAL cause and did it that way.

We just donated DH's car in August. We donated to LI Cares. We got the initial tax paperwork but when they auctioned the car they sent us a new tax deduction paper with the value that the car was sold for. We had to call 2 days before and you need to give them all the details about the car and an exact location. Call a few days ahead of when you would like the car picked up because they use a towing company to pick up the car and it takes a few days.

I haven't but I saw something on the news awhile back about this, and how companies form charities and advertise in places like the pennysaver and such, but they don't actually use the money for the charity. So if you go that route use a very well know organization and contact them directly and find out what percentage of the donation actually goes to the charity. Do your research if you really want to help out.

I donated mine to a local charity in Queens- "Bobby and the Strays" its a no-kill animal shelter. I didn't have the greatest experience w/ the donation process, although I still support the charity. good luck!

I donated my first car. Just make sure you take all registration tags off of it. I didn't and the idiot who they sold it too just left it somewhere in Philly with my tags on it. I got a letter in the mail stating I owed $400 in parking tickets. It was easily fixed once I forwarded the paperwork, but it was scary thinking that I would have to pay.
