Has anyone done Meetup.com?

I joined a local group here in Maryland. I just RSVPed YES to going to a playdate for infants at someone's house. I am nervous as hell since I don't know ANY of these ladies.

Should I bring something? I feel like cancelling because what if they figure out what a dork I am?

lol your cute! do not cancel! i am so not an outgoing person (i leave that up to my dh) but i really needed to get out with ds so i joined the meetup group and love it! i've met such nice people and wish i could make more meetings (a lot are scheduled when ds naps).

i've done gym meetups and even a moms night out painting pottery meetup. i iwsh i could do a playdate at someones house but ds is always sleeping during those. i think the in house ones will give you a better opportunity to really make friends.

if you want bring something small like cookies. with my group they usually say whether or not u should bring stuff.

I've done a few where I live. I started at public place meetings - like walks in mall, playgroups at those gym type places, etc.

I was nervous and somewhat shy at first, but everyone was really sweet and welcoming. I work FT so I have a hard time going to alot of the playgroups, but if/when I go part time I definitely will now that I feel more comfortable.

I'd go - it's hard for the first few minutes, but it's worth it!!

I have done it here on LI. The ppl were very nice. DD is the youngest child, and a lot of events they do are for older babies so I have only been to one meet up so far,

ETA - the one I went to was at a public place. I would not go to a person's house for your first outing.

I just use LIF as meetup.com

Where in MD are you? My nutball SIL lives in Baltimore, but she is fun and has a 2 year old..and is preggo.

I heart my meetup group. When I had my heart surgery, they ALL cooked meals for my family and dropped them off. I have gone to the G2G's and ALL of the ladies are super nice.

I belong to a Meetup.com group right here on LI. I've only gone to meeting that were playgroups at places like Gymboree, etc. The ladies are all really nice and very open to meeting new mom's, so I felt very welcome.

However, since I don't see them that often, I haven't gone to a playdate at someone's house just yet.

I went to one here on Long Island. I thought it was OK. BUT I have to say...I went to public events. I can TOTALLY understand your fear of going into someone elses house. Heres my honest opinion...REMEMEBER YOU are going into someone elses home that you TOTALLY DO NOT know. It makes you vulnerable to situations that you may not be in a public forum. This is the interent. Who the heck knows. Like I said, I ve been to a few here (public) and it was OKAY but who would I be to say that where you are going is safe. Use your judgement. I personally wouldnt do it...thats up to you. Look at the situation on LIF with the girl that faked she had a child. Many people fell into that trap thinking its LIF and she seems so normal. I would hate for anyone to give you bad advice.
