Has anyone else had a racing pulse during early pregnancy??

I have felt not well for the past 2 days. The normal nausea I had at 7 weeks last time around is here, which I expected...

But I have this weird awful anxiety like feeling...it's terrible. I'll be laying down and can feel my pulse pounding in my throat (sounds weird but its the only way I can explain it..).

Anyone else?? I cut out caffeine, have been drinking a lot of water, etc...it's so weird. I have an appointment on tuesday and will wait till then to ask the doctor but was curious to know what others thought...

(I also have a lot on my mind regarding my son, so it may very well be anxiety..i just don't know) Chat Icon

yes... I had it a bunch in teh begining and it freaked me out and I'm starting to get it now again at 29 weeks.

I called my midwife about it and she said it was caused by thte increase of blood and fluid volume in the body. She had my Gp do and ekg and it was normal..... freaks me out though! I would let your practitioner know

every once in awhile I feel like that. I'm not really worried. If it was more consistent I would worry more.

Have you taken sudafed or any kind of cold medicine. Although sudafed is considered "safe" it can cause some womens' hearts to race.

i have the same thing as well as some heart palpitations. it's normal and from and increase in blood. according to one midwife i spoke to while searching around at the beginning people with vegetarian diets (like me), etc. are more prone to that and low blood pressure during pregnancy, but i can't remember the exact reason why. i was told to drink a lot of fluids.

i had the rapid pulse and heart palpitations through most of my second pregnacy. they sent me to a cardiologist just to make sure everything was ok, and it was. cardiologist says its one of those funky side effects of pregnancy and it should go away once you give birth

I have had it almost this entire PG. And now as I am further along it is getting worse. Mainly when I am lying down in bed.

I have arhythmia, even before the pregnancy. But its not dangerous, as long as it slows down in a reasonable amount of time, which it always does. However, if I were you, I would mention it to the doctor. It never can hurt.

Yes I had it alot in the beginning too. It freaked me out because I didn't know what effect if any it could have on the baby. The Dr. wasn't concerned. I still get it sometimes at 30 weeks.

Re: Has anyone else had a racing pulse during early pregnancy??

YES I had this very early on and it scared the crap out of me. I was only 5 1/2 weeks at the time it started, and I happened to be with my 5th grade class on a field trip in Charleston SC (about 3 hours away from Charlotte, where we live). I was laying in bed and my pulse was racing--it did that for over an hour. I had someone measure it and it was above 100. I called DH to come and get me that same night.

As for the pulsing feeling, I had that as well--my Dr. told me it's your blood volume increasing and while annoying, it's totally normal. Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone else had a racing pulse during early pregnancy??

This was the final straw that landed me on bedrest. I was feeling the palpitations that started making me feel lightheaded and dizzy so they sent me to cardiologist. My blood pressure was low side and heart rate was in 130's so they hooked me to a holter monitor for 24 hrs to get a reading. Well turns out that 95% of the time my heart is racing in the 130-140s so with this and the pain im having from the pubic symphsis i had to quit denying it and go out on bedrest. Drink lots of water and definately keep your doctor in the loop.

I had that in my first trimester when I was pregnant. I thought something was wrong too but I think it's just your heart trying to adjust to the increased blood volume and flow in your body. It went away after a few weeks. Feel better. Chat Icon
