Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
If we upgrade to a Balcony it is an extra $400. Is it worth it? Does a porthole room really stink?
TIA

Re: Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
I've never been on that boat or in a pothole room, but I;ve been on several other cruises, one with balcony (my honeymoon) and 2 inside cabins (no windows)
I would totally pick the inside room ans save the $ for drinks, excursions, etc. We were in the room so little other than to sleep, shower etc, it just wasn't worth it.
we hung out on the deck by the pool in lougne chairs, not the balcony. The blacony was shaded and very windy when the boat was moving.
I'd say keep the porthole. You still get some daylight, but you hvae extra $ for more fun activites.

Did you get sick at all being inside? That is what I am afraid of with an inside room

Re: Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
I dont get motion sick, but my friend I went with had no problems. Its like having blackout shades closed. The only problem we had was we took an afternoon nap and slept forever cause there was no light to wake us up.
We were rarely in the room. We didnt really hang out there, with all the activites on the ship.
My choice would be to keep the porhole- you get light and the ability to see out, but still save money.
I'm sure other people have different opinions and I'm sure you'll get them, but that was my experience

Re: Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
I was on NCL Dawn for my honeymoon & we had a balcony. I am not sure if you are travelling with both kids but if so, I would do the upgrade. The balcony room was tight with just my DH & I, so I know the porthole room will be smaller. Having the balcony was a lifesaver especially when we were looking for extra room at night or even in the am...
I have had a porthole room on Princess & the room was ridiculously tight. DH & I would leave the room immediately upon getting up just so we could get fresh air & move around more comfortably

Re: Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
We had a porthole room on Carnival but we got upgraded to a regular ocean view when we checked in. On NCL we had a balcony and it was small! I don't know if in general NCL rooms run smaller, but we had a lot less wiggle room. I would find out the square footage, if there's no difference then i would save the money and go for a porthole.

Re: Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
i have stayed in a no window, a window and a balcony rooms..... i loved the balcony for obvious reasons-but i have to say..we didn't use it that much....i think we actually got it as a free upgrade b/c they messed up our room!!!
the window was great at certain parts of the day but most of the time when i went to look out of it, it was always too dark to see n e thing!!LOL
and the room w/o a window was also fine for us too b/c like an above poster said, you are hardly in your room.....if you do get motion sickness i would suggest a porthole/window/balcony....u do always have the option of leaving your room if you get motion sickness and sitting outside somewhere too (if your sickness is not tooo terrible!)
for me, i would rather no window and use that money for tours, etc......the balcony was nice if you would make use of it....for me i loved it but i also love being out in the main parts of the ship and not in my room.....

also wanted to add that if you do decide to pick a room w/no window.....the location of the room on the ship would be helpful in avoiding motion sickness.....pick a lower lever in the center of the ship....a newer ship will also have more/better stablizers...a bigger ship shouldn't 'rock' as much....good luck w/your choice!

Re: Has anyone ever been in a porthole room on the Norwegian Dawn?
ive never stayed in a porthole room bf but did stay in an inside cabin once - and ONLY once. I have cruised again a few times after and will only stay in a balcony room. i felt claustrophobic in the inside cabin. I felt like i needed air. Dh is never bothered by anything and he will never stay in an inside room. We love sitting on our balcony having a couple of drinks and relaxing in the comfort of our room.
