Has anyone ever dyed their hair black
I am talking pure black. You can see a pic of me in my profile my hair is medium/dark brown to begin with....what do you think of dying it black? I want a change, I had red highlights last year. I dont want blonde highlights. Other than that Ive never done anything drastic with it. Heck, I havent even blow dried it since I was 12. Do you think in the meantime after its growing out it will look bad?

I have dyed black hair right now. I did a semi-perm color back in early July - it's still not out!!
Don't want it for the winter because I don't want to look like Morticia, but I'm still tan right now so it's ok - although my lighter roots are growing in, so I have to decide what to do.
Keep in mind that if you do semi-perm, it's going to last a lot longer that it says on the box!

July! Yikes! Hmmmm......my skin is kind of natually olive though....yours is too though right? Thats why I am thinking I wont ever look like Morticia....

Thanks Neenie! I am just worried about the growing out period after - I am sure it looks bad. And if I dont want to continue dying it, I just want my natural color to grow back in. Thats always my qualm about dying hair. Yes, I am a hair virgin.

yup. I did it several years ago for about a year.
I did it following a halloween party for which I wore a black wig and got tons of compliments. I liked it at the time, but looking back it was a bit harsh against my pale skin.
on growing it out, you can always get it dyed to be closer to your natural color later on so there won't be such a difference as it grows out.
also, you could try a home color that will wash out in a few shampoos before you really take the plunge!

LOL - yeah - I probably won't ever look like a true Morticia, but it does make my skin look a lot paler!

I definitely suggest this. I am really fair like you and I think it looked harsh (especailly in pictures) and it takes a LONG time to get rid of it!
ets: how about a darker brown?

yuppers i did it too for about a year and a half have been toying with doing it again. oh and i love the morticia look
mine grew back fine - the growing out period wasnt bad - i actually cut my hair so it was light brown with black tips - was really cool looked like it was dipped in ink. i layered it so it looked like i did it on purpose.

Yes, but if you use permanent color you cant change or highlight is until it grows out or you wait a long period of time.
I did it and tried to highlight it a year later and it would not lift. You can always go darker but to go from black to light is nearly impossible!

I never have but I know it makes your complexion look very pale. I think you have to have prefect skin for jet black hair, especially if you wear it straight hanging down around your face. Your hair color isnt too different, it could really work. I would stick with the red highlights on you though.
