Has anyone ever had a cat with feline herpes?
My little one was born w/herpes. He rarely, if ever, has outbreaks. He did give them to our older cat (which caused an axiety attack ) who seems to be affected a little more. They get L-lysine to combat the issue, but does it ever totally go away? Is something more likely to bring about an outbreak? How do you handle it?

Re: Has anyone ever had a cat with feline herpes?
we think Haley our kitten exposed Stubby but to be honest we aren't sure if they have it. I should ask the vet. A month after having Haley Stubby got very ill but they said it was a upper resp infection gone bad that stubby got from haley. The thing is herpes got mentioned and both were put on that same medicine but only for a month.

Yes - Lily gets breakouts in her eyes. She got it from the shelter and had many outbreaks her first year. She hadn't had one in several years and then with the wedding and going on the HM for 10 days she got a really bad one. Turns out it was good since she had another unrelated eye issue going on that we wouldn't have known about.
She then got another one a month ago when we had a flood.
Any highly stressful situations seems to be a big factor.

Ahhh OK...the last stressful thing that seems to have caused Champ's anxiety was a little flea outbreak. He is very high strung as it is, so maybe that is exacerbating the herpes. I just feel bad and he can't tell me what is wrong They seem to do well on the L-lysine which keeps it at bay, I just wonder if there's ever a dormant period or end, or if they'll just keep passing it back and forth, KWIM?

Her's was dormant for years - I think the other problem in her eye plus the stress was too much. She is on eye drops and l-lysine until March

NO, definitely not. It's mainly a respiratory issue that gives them eye/nose crusties. Humans CANNOT get it.

My cat has had it since he was a kitten but hasn't had any outbreaks in years. He used to get eye infections but we would treat it with ointment and it went away fairly easily.
