Has anyone ever had a tree/large bush transplanted?
We have a large fig tree in our yard and want to move it to another spot. DH called a company yesterday (I forget the name so I don't want to say it and be completely wrong) but they told him it would cost us $1,000 just to have them take a look at it? Seriously? That didn't sound right at all.

I would first ask a nursery like Hicks. You can get some advise from them first. That is a crazy price to pay for them just to look at it.

Check out this site for certified Arborists. We used one of the companies on here for some problem we had with one of our trees that needed to be sprayed. GL!

I'll look at the tree for $500.
jk I would take a picture to a place like Hick's Nursery, or call an arborist. They should be able to come in for free to take a look at it.

Re: Has anyone ever had a tree/large bush transplanted?
We paid $500 to move a mature Japanese Maple last Spring, but I think we got a discount through our landscaper. I think it would have cost around 1K if we used someone else.
I don't know how tall our tree is, but the root ball had to be about 5' in diameter.
So far, so good. We have buds!

We had several large bushes transplanted around our house last year along with a few trees taken down AND pruning of all of our trees...it costs us approx $1,300 - and this was done by a certified arborist.

OK, that is completely wrong. They should come look at it for free and then give you an estimate to move the tree. I know fig trees are very sensitive and just be careful where you move it to. They don't like wind or open spaces etc.... And I'm not 100% certain how they handle transplanting and when the best time is to do it. Most plants transplant good before they have woke up for Spring. It probably the best time right now if its still dormant. And I think that is someone transplants your tree, they probably wont guarantee it, but ask them.
Good luck.
