Has anyone ever had surgery while pregnant?
My friend is about 18 weeks pregnant. She is 40 years old, this is her first pregnancy - they just got married last year.
She found out around 5.5 weeks pregnant that she had a cyst on her right ovary about the size of an apple.
After dealing with an incompetent OB  and a few specialists she went to a gynecological oncologist who confirmed that it was a complex cyst BUT it doesn't look cancerous - however, he advised her that she should have it out now and they will test it to make sure because he doesn't want it causing complications later on in the pregnancy - and god forbid, if it IS cancer, at least she has the option now of terminating the pregnancy and getting chemo/radiation. 
I am so scared for her, and she is obviously freaked out as well. The surgery is next week.
I guess I am just hoping to hear positive stories...

I didn't but I know gtsgirl (stacey) did- the exact same thing (ovarian cyst while pregnant). She went on to have a healthy son.
Search her name and "cyst" and you'll find her story.

Thanks Amy - I did a quick search and I feel a bit better for her now. She is having it done laparoscopically and will only be under for about 15 minutes so hopefully there are no complications

My grandma did in the 60's while pregnant with my dad and everything went fine... and this is with 1960's technology so I'm sure things are a million times better now.

A friend of a friend had her ovary removed while pregnant after they found a cyst on it! She went on to have 3 beautiful boys

My sister had something similiar. She opted to wait till after she had her DD. The cyst grew and she wound up in the hospital around 33 weeks in pain. They kept her on meds and around 34 weeks she had to have a c-section b/c they thought that was the best way to get the baby out. Her DD had no room. She was in the NICU for a bit and was fine. my sister still looked pregnant for a while after b/c she had the cyst that grew so much. Maybe around 3 months PP she had it removed and everything was fine. I'm sure she could've done it while pregnant too.

2nd trimester is the best time to operate and she was smart to go to a gyn oncologist they are better surgeons... Praying all is well

Same thing happened to me....
Few doctors advised me to remove it (and test it) while pregnant but I did not want to risk losing the baby and opted to wait. So I did.
I had it removed during my c-section....it was big.....thankfully it was not cancerous and have not had any problems since then.

My SIL had the same thing done around the same time in the PG. The surgery went well and the baby even tried to kick the doctor while he was in there. They saw it all on the video monitor.
