How come the RE's office didn't make sure you were approved BEFORE starting stims?!

Re: has anyone ever had to cancel an IVF cycle?
I know my insurance, the IVF portion coverage takes place on retrieval day forward. My bw and sonos fall under regular medical. So as long as I have the approval before retrieval day, I am fine. If this is the same for you, you still have some time.

That is crazy they are supposed to have it authorized for your first baseline sono if they didnt its because a lack of being prompt on there end. I have had a canceled cycle not due to insurance it was due to me not stimming good enough and what they do is just tell you to stop everything it doesnt matter what point your at. But in your case what they will prob do is if your insurance says no they will ask you are you going to pay out of pocket if not then they will just stop everything.

This is why I always get the authorization going on my own. Whether I call financial office person at dr's office or call the insurance myself. I learned this from finding out my first IVF was not taken care of with authorization and I was to start the next day. You can call the insurance yourself to see where it is at.

Re: has anyone ever had to cancel an IVF cycle?
That's strange. Were you in a rush to do this cycle? SIRM usually gets all of the pre-approvals first. They had a multi-page work-up on my insurance coverage by the time I had my first consult. I was in a hurry to get started my first IVF so I took my chances and started Lupron CD 21 the cycle before IVF but SIRM clearly told me it was at my own risk and that I could start...or wait for approval. Injects are too expensive to start without prior approval. I'm surprised you were even put on BCP's first without approval or being cautioned about the risksm. I had 3 IVF's there and never did they wait until baseline to get approval. Speak to the office manager..something is OFF. I really hope things work out for you.

Re: has anyone ever had to cancel an IVF cycle?
Hmmm, I'm not sure what they'd do if it was because of insurance approval. My cycle was converted to an IUI because I didn't make enough mature follicles.
But if you had a normal amount of follicles for IVF, it would be dangerous to do IUI. You could end up being the new Octomom, ya know.
Maybe it'll come through in time GL!

Why didn't they get approval!?!? They shouldn't penalize you for not doing their job! If they want to bs paid they get the approval. The first thing they did was called my ins although I told them Ivf isn't covered.

Re: has anyone ever had to cancel an IVF cycle?
ill find out tomorrow or tuesday whether or not i ahve to cancel.
it was a combo of many things- mainly got shuffled along and i guess i should have been more aware of what was going on- i didnt really understnad the process until it was too late. i was rushed into this cycle but i really didnt mind that part... complete lack of communication... i was missing two tests so it took a bit to get them- i should have been on top of them about obtaining the test results but i wasnt. it was casually mentioned a few days ago that if i dont get approved, i can pay OOP or cancel. i dont know if they have a policy about these things, i doubt i'd have any recourse.
wish me luck tomorrow

They arent very good about telling you if you have everything you need. I had to ask several times and kept getting emails back that were conviluded and not answering my question. Things like "look at the 2nd calendar email I sent", when I didnt ask a calendar question. Then when I told them that I didnt question the calendar, they would answer "I sent 2- look at the first one". STILL didnt answer my ? and pizzed me off. Never got my answer from the nurse, but got a call the other day asking for my check and telling me Im approved to go. I guess I'll know next Monday.

Same type of things happened with me. I felt a huge disorganization at times. Sometimes I was told that I was sent emails or return calls I never got.

This is just un professional and disorganized...and IVF cycle is supposed to be stress-free and it is their job to make it that way! I would be very annoyed.
