Has anyone ever taken there dog on a plane?
I am dying to visit my GF in florida.. I would love to take Lola with me.. I am pertified she will be traumatized.. And will her ears pop and hurt like ours?? I imagine so? I am so nervous but i would love to take her so I can enjoy myself more and stay longer.. any experiences??

Re: Has anyone ever taken there dog on a plane?
i take one of my dogs on the plane all the time. it's no problem at all.
i bought a dog carrier that meets the airline standards for a carry-on, so i just put her under the seat.
the first few times we gave her benadryl to sedate her, but now she's used to it and doesn't need anything.
fm me if you'd like more info on how to do this.

I am sure you will be fine! Ask your vet about the ear popping. I wish my dog was small enough to carry him on the plane b/c I refuse to place him in the cargo area.

I wonder now if she is small enough to go under my seat?? What if she cries I will be so upset.. I have never even heard my dog cry or whimper EVER? Its actually weird? I have to ask the vet about the ears and if its the same as us she is staying with my Mother!

Why do you say that about cargo? Sometime next year I am moving my cats overseas and they are going on a 22 hour plane flight and it has to be in cargo (Australia doesn't allow pets anywhere in the passenger section).

MY DH used to work for the airlines and he would get upset seeing the dogs frightened.

What about PetAir? I know it is expensive, but I figured it would be less scary since it is not a cargo area...not sure if they fly to Austrailia tho.

hmmm I never heard of that?? I wonder if they go to Flordia thats all i want to do.. But I am going to ask the vet about the ear thing first.. I think it would be the same as us and I really would never do that to my dog.. Unless it was an emergency not luxury.. She can stay with My Gf or mother...

We take our dog on planes all of the time! We give her an herbal sedative (all natural) and she is usually fine. She starts to whine when the plane takes off, but then she is fine the whole rest of the way. We have a special lid that attaches to a water bottle that allows the dog to drink from it, and we just make sure to keep her hydrated. She has even flown cross-country with us.
For most airlines, the dog and carrier must weigh 20 lbs or less - and there are specifications on the type/size of carriers. Also, for some airlines, you'll need to bring vaccination papers with you.
One more thing - it can be very expensive! I know that Jetblue charges 100 each way for pets to fly with you - and many airlines have restrictions on how many pets can be on a plane.
It's really no big deal though! Our dog has done it many times. FM me if you have any questions!

Re: Has anyone ever taken there dog on a plane?
I have taken Bella on a plane with me MANY times (I was living in NC and my entire family was in NY, so I'd fly home with her at least 5 times a year for 2 years). She was GREAT every time!
ETA- I forgot to mention I always give her Rescue Remedy for Pets- it helps to calm her! I get it at Wild By Nature

This is adorable and just what I was going to suggest for you Diana. Can you get one of those doggy carriers and take her on just like that? When i got Brody as an 8 week old pup he was shipped to me as Cargo. He was crying and whining and I felt so bad. He is too big now I wish I could put him in a bag and carry him on! He throws up in the car even , forget a plane!

Re: Has anyone ever taken there dog on a plane?
Last March Ginger flew with us to Naples Fl on Jet Blue. She was wonderfull the entire time. Our vet had said to give her childrens benadryl to help keep her calm. We gave her a little but I think she would have been fine either way. She slept under the seat the whole time. I kept the top of the bag open so I could easily pet her and check on her but she was a pleasure to travel w/.
