Has anyone found a warm, but thin winter coat?
I bought a warm puffy jacket for DS last winter. It was a PITA to keep putting it on and then taking it off in the car seat. I'd love to get him a winter jacket that he can wear in the car seat. It needs to be warm b/c he'll be spending time outside most days. We tend to get a bit more snow here and have slightly colder weather than LI.
Has anyone found a warm winter jacket that's thin enough to wear in the car seat?

How about one of the Columbia or North Face ones with the zip-in fleece lining? Then you could put on the outer layer for outside play, but use the warm inner layer for the car, etc.
I LOVED DS's last year--it was Children's place, and not at all bulky, but had sherpa lining. I don't see it this year though.

Re: Has anyone found a warm, but thin winter coat?
I have - I get DD the squall parka from Lands End (they are having 25% off this weekend on full price items I believe). I get her the parka and snow pants - her preschool takes them outside every single day - unless it rains so they are outside in the really cold weather. They have temperature ratings on them (this one is -15/25 degrees). They are fleece lined and not puffy. It was a coat that was recommended to me by a car seat installation person b.c it was not puffy. DD has used them for 3 years and last year she said she was warm all winter. Many of the children in her preschool had this coat as well. I think columbia and LL bean probably make similar ones as well. But I know that the lands end was is really great.
It comes in a bunch of colors.

Just bought DS this one from Old Navy, super warm but not bulky at all (it also comes in blue).

we use 2 different ones. A down coat for outside, and just a northface-like fleece for the car. When I carry him out to the car, I wrap a blanket around him too.

I agree with the poster who suggested Land's End. I have been using them for a few years now with DD. They can be a little pricer but if you get them on sale they are reasonable. Also, if you order them with a free shipping code and have to return them, you can bring them to a sears that has Lands End stuff and you aren't out any money.
I do this and order a few different sizes if I'm not sure what will fit best. I'm out the extra $$ initially, but return the ones I don't need and it's credited back to my sears card.

Re: Has anyone found a warm, but thin winter coat?
I am a Gap warmest jacket fan but ever since I started buying LE, I am won over. (Plus I heard the newer Gap coats are really not the same quality-wise as they were a few years ago) They look so thin you almost refuse to believe they are warm enough but they always are. My DS has been using them for a few years now and I just got my DD one and it's so gorgeous!

This is what I did at the beginning of the summer, I got a few coats for DD on clearance. I ended up returning them all bc I wasn't thrilled with the styles last winter. This year they are beautiful. I took a chance and ordered only one for my DD and it worked out.

I got the purple squall parka - which is a bit longer than the jacket. It was on backorder - but it shipped out wednesday so it should be here soon. I got the matching bibb and it was a really nice dark purple. The jacket is a bit lighter shade I believe.

DS is tiny and is still wearing 12-18 month clothes. This would be a good option for next winter though. Thanks!

I am going to buy dd a north face. I am going to buy a size up so hopefully she can get 2 years of wear out of it, making the cost feel a little better!

What about looking at the jackets and one piece fleeces from places like Columbia, LL bean etc - they all carry non puffy jackets and unlike Lands End this year they DO carry Jackets and those one piece fleeces that are non puffy in 12, 18, and 24 months. Lands End last year and the year before carried the jacket I posted that small b.c DD wore 18 months that winter - but unfortunately it looks like they did away with it - too bad they were perfect for the 12-24 month range. Hope you find what you need

It's the parka so it's longer.
