Has anyone gone through this before? re: purchasing a home without a permit for a pool
Ughhh, I am just so frustrated.
So we are in contract and find out today that the seller never followed through with the permit for the inground pool. He applied for one, but never got one. Our attorney was because he said once they apply for one, the town normally comes to the property to follow up. So MAYBE its a mistake. A call is put in to the seller to find out what the heck is going on and we should know more within the next few days.
My question is... if this happened, how long would it take to get this fixed? MONTHS?
This entire process is just horrid and I just want to be in this house already!

Our owners, just ripped it down, without consulting us, just because it was easier,WHILE we were in contract. We took $$ off purchase price.

you can go to the town hall or village to the buildings department to find out if a CO is on file.

We just went through that. He applied but never followed through. I found a lot of homeowners did that. He had to pay to get the permit. It did not take that long to get it done. I will tell you this. We are in the town of brookhaven and they made him put a fence around the pool. Although we wanted that for the safety issue, just remember depending on the pool and size of your backyard that could take up space.

Luckily, there is already a fence around it. The house is in Brookhaven as well.
So today DH looks at the survey that he had to get from the town last week, and sees that the pool is on there with measurements and all.
We are waiting to hear back from our attny. We were supposed to close in a couple of weeks, so if there is no permit, looks like it will take longer..
