Re: Has anyone grieved their taxes?
My mom did it herself and it was a lot of work. She had to find homes comparable to hers, which was really hard since she's the only one on her block where the house wasn't added onto at all. When she submitted the paperwork they kinda made fun of how small her house was that there were no others like it in her town. Her's didn't go down.
My ILs had one of those lawyers that send out the letters greive theirs and they got reduced. You pay the lawyer 10% the first year and that's it.

When you grieve taxes do they come to your house to do a survey/assessment?

Re: Has anyone grieved their taxes?
Thanks, I'll tell my DH about getting someone to do it. I definitely wont have the time to do the footwork myself and then it'll get put off or neve done. Ours are high for what others in the area are paying and while we just did some awesome new work inside in the past few months, prior to that, they house is really nothing special that they should be higher IMO.

Re: Has anyone grieved their taxes?
Yes, I did and it was the easiest thing I had to do. But this was ONLY because I bought the house within a year and already had an appraisal. I simply filled out the forms, included a copy of my appraisal and dropped it off at town hall. I got a letter a few months later and they lowered my takes $1220.
I did also talk to them before this and town hall looked up what my house was valued at through the state. It was $100K more than I paid for the house so even they suggested I grieve them.
There are many lawyers that will do this for you. Their fee is usally 50% of your first year saving. However, this 50% is due within 30 days of the decision and you don't actually get the saving until the next calendar year.
