Has anyone had a birthmark fade, but then get darker a few years later?
DS was born with a birthmark that covered the upper lip, nose, eyelids, forehaed and then down the back of his head. Doctors said it should fade within the first year. it did, but was still noticeable. But over the past month it has started to get darker again. It isn't because of the sun. We have sunblocked him like always. And the past two summers he spent everyday at the pool and it never got darker.
We have an appt with the pediatric dermatologist that is working on his case. (Yes, he is a teaching case because of the length of the birthmark. They have been documenting him.) But his appt isn't until June 18. Should I try to get in earlier? Anybody deal with this?
He is now nearing 3 years old and it hadn't changed in over a year, but getting darker now?!?!?
TIA!!!!!!

No advice really but I had a birthmark on the inside of my thigh and calf when I was born. Doctor told my mother it would fade and it did. But even now at 33, I notice that the skin is different - I seem to have broken capillaries under the skin and although no one else notices, I can tell.
That's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I didn't want your post to go unanswered. Hope you get some answers!
PS - he's a cutie!

Thanks! We really have been trying to figure out if we should have it removed before he starts school. Every new kid that meets him asks why he has a red face.

If it is something that is treatable and you can afford to do it, I would address it.
Your DS is adorable, but if this is something that would make him more comfortable then I would do it if I could. I'm biased as I have several scars that make me very self conscious (your son's is not nearly as bad as mine though _
