Has anyone had ovarian surgery?

Hi all... sorry to crash, but just curious if anyone has had ovarian surgery? I go in a few weeks to have a large cyst removed from my ovary. at this time, he thinks it will be just the cyst that will be removed, but it could be the cyst and some eggs depending on how imbedded the cyst is and worse case scenrio would be losing the whole ovary, although thankfully, he doesn't think that is too likely.

it will be laproscopic, but i am still nervous... has anyone dealt with something like this?

Re: Has anyone had ovarian surgery?

I had surgery on my right ovary in 1991. It was a dermoid, but i had an open laparotomy, so the recovery was a bit longer. I had an exp. laprascope and the healing time was minimal. Unfortunately, i have never gotten any follies to develop on my right ovary and the RE thinks it is due to my prev. ovarian surgery. GL!

Re: Has anyone had ovarian surgery?

I just had surgery on my left ovary to remove a 6cm endometrioma (chocolate cyst). When I had my IUI on Friday, there weren't any follies on that ovary. I asked the doctor if that ovary was still healing from surgery, could that possibly be the reason that there were any follies? He told me that he didn't know.

Good luck.

Re: Has anyone had ovarian surgery?

I just had it done three weeks ago. Recovery was about a week. I stayed home from work for six days. I had difficulty sleeping and laying flat up until last week....but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Good Luck!

Just wanted to bump this to thank all of you for all your posts and thoughtful FM's. It's a stressful time for me because I am not so sure what thsis surgery may mean for me in the long run. Thanks for your support! the surgery is at the end of the month, so I'll keep you posted!
