Has Anyone had their child's hearing evaluated?
We are going for a hearing evalutaion this Thursday and I don't really know what to expect. If anyone has ever been through this I would appreciate any insight. Also, are you told the results on the spot? TIA

i'm a speech therapist, and had some classes in audiology as well.... for young kids they make the testing like a game, and the kids really enjoy it. they might have them put a block in a bucket everytime they hear a sound, etc. they make it as fun as possible. you should be able to get the results right away. good luck!

Thanks for the info. Do you know if that is standard testing for a 15 month old? At this point I don't know if he would be able to understand that. A speech evaluation is the next step.

ooh! i didn't realize he was that young. in his case, they would probably do visual audiometry. which is basically he sits on your lap in a soundproof room. they make different sounds with different frequencies and volumes go off in different parts of the room. if he turns his head towards the sound ( meaning he heard it), there is like a light up cartoon or toy that goes off to "reward" him. then they get his attention back to the center of the room and do the next sound. still pretty simple, and he'll get to be with you the whole time. good luck! let me know if you have any other speech questions

Re: Has Anyone had their child's hearing evaluated?
I actually just had my son's hearing tested (he is 25 months) and I was worried since he hates anything near his ears, but the exam was just as ml110 said. He actually enjoyed it and liked the visuals (which inculded Mickey and Donald). Good Luck, it will be more fun then you expect!
