Has anyone had to pay for a HSG
out of their pocket?
If so, do you know how much it is??
We do not have any coverage for infertility and need to start getting our finances in order to try for another child
Thanks

The HSG may not go under infertility. Did you check with your insurance co?
My HSG went under the regular part of my insurance. It depends on the procedure code.

Re: Has anyone had to pay for a HSG
I remember calling the office where I was gonna have my hsg done to inquire how much it would cost if my insurance didnt cover it. I'm almost postitive they said about $300.

Re: Has anyone had to pay for a HSG
my insurance covered it, but I also asked in advance how much it was just in case, and I think it was in the $400-500 range?

I wonder if HSG is only for fertility. I can't imagine that it's a test only for that reason hence the procedure code comment.
Can your doctor say it's a medical necessity and have it coded a certain way?
Just trying to help.

Re: Has anyone had to pay for a HSG
Hi Marcie.. I had an HSG done last fall and we also do not have ANY insurance coverage for IF, so we paid out of pocket..
I guess I paid a lot compared to some of the $$ the other posters listed here but our HSG came out to well over $800 (I'm not on LI, and I had the HSG done at a hospital, though I'm not sure if that makes any difference..)
My OBGYN tried so many ways to "diagnose" me to get it covered by my insurance. She said it was a necessity, etc, when she submitted the claim but still no dice, we had to pay (we are also on hold for any other IF treatments until we save up some money since the HSG was way more than we expected it would at the time )
Hope that helps.. FM me with any questions

I think hospitals are always more money- because my insurance company doesn't cover anything in full if done at a hospital, but does if it's in an office or stand alone... i guess that's something else to consider/navigate when dealing w/ these companies.

Re: Has anyone had to pay for a HSG
Thanks everyone
I am going to talk to my OB again to see if she has any suggestions
I do know that someone I spoke to at a hospital called my insurance company and tried her best to see if there was anyway to get it covered - but no avail

I know this might sound like a stupid question - but where else would you have this done besides a hospital?

Re: Has anyone had to pay for a HSG
some Gyns do it. I know my RE does it and my friends gyn did it for her.
I did it at NS and they billed my insurance company a ton of money.
Maybe in a doc's office it's different.

Radiology facilities do it- like Zwanger or Zilkha... I had mine at Zilkha in West Islip and liked the staff and doc very much- if I would've had it at Good Sam, I would have had to pay 10% out of pocket.
