Has anyone heard of such a thing...upsetting new mom story.
My cousin--and very close friend--had her 1st on 3/7. She started out BF and she quickly got mastitis. She was instructed to keep pumping through the pain, but as her fever and pain increased, she went to see a specialist, who promptly admitted her to the hospital for surgery (on 3/20)--they believed the breast had abscessed. Upon opening her up, it was discovered that it had not, in fact, abscessed, but that she had a pretty severe staph infection--MRSA. (Now, she had 2 occurences of MRSA during her pregnancy, that evidently never cleared up?)
Currently, she is still hospitalized. She had a 2nd breast surgery on Friday where evidently they got "it all" out, but her white blood cell count has not gone down to normal range and she is still running low fevers. At this point, she has not seen her 3 week old baby in 12 days and no one can tell when she is getting out. She is just so discouraged.
I guess I was just wondering if anyone has heard of a story like this and how it resolved...I guess any prayers would be appreciated as well...

Not with the breast but with my foot. I got a staph infection too when DS was a few weeks old. It too me almost 2 months to realize I just could not heal and I was not getting better.
It took me 3 different kind of antibiotics, 3 medical procedures and weekly visits at the specialist for a total of an additonal 2 months to get rid of it.

I wish your cousin a very speedy recovery I cannot believe she cannot get answers from anyone. Do you know a lawyer (like a family friend or something) that could maybe speak to her doctors? Maybe she could get an answer that way?

How horrible...
After I had DD, I ended up with a kidney infection that landed me in the hospital for more than a week when my DD was only 3 weeks old. It was the lolngest time ever to not be with my kids. It was heartbreaking
