Has anyone here actually had any luck with the Teacher Loan Forgiveness program
I'm about to start filling out the application. I meet all requirements for the elementary level of up to $5,000 in forgiveness. Just wondering if anyone has actually had luck with this? It says up to $5,000 so how do they determine the actual amount?

Wait, stop paying??? I still owe about $9,500. If I get the full amount I still have a balance. I meant to do it at 5 years and now here I am in my 8th year at my school.

If you are special ed you get more back. I guess that's why I should've stopped before.

Oh ok. Yeah, special Ed is up to $17,500. Huge difference, but you all deserve every penny.

Ok I'm on my 8th year in a title 1 school so I'm hoping this will get me the full $5,000. Fingers crossed. This would be so amazing.

Do they give you some of the money if you only worked at the school for 3 or 4 years and not the full 5?

No you have to work the full 5 years. I had to wait to apply at first but I was making payments on my loan until I reached my 5th yr. I applied and they paid the rest off. Good luck!

I got the full $17, 500 for teaching in a title 1 school for 5 years as a special ed teacher without any problem. You have to apply after you taught for 5 years. So I finished my 5th year in June sent it in July and got it like the end of September. You must also have outstanding loans at the time you apply.

Re: Has anyone here actually had any luck with the Teacher Loan Forgiveness program
Anyone know if this is available for SLP's working in schools (teacher certificate)
ETA: SLP's do qualify!!!
The question is have is this... If I was a sophomore in college on Oct. 1, 1998 and had federal loans all 4 years am I not qualified? Meaning that I had a loan on that date but, I wasn't in repayment because I was still in school. It says you don't qualify if : " you must not have had an outstanding balance on a direct loans as of Oct 1, 1998" How would your interpret that?
ETA-again: I am not eligible. Your FIRST loan must have been disbursed after Oct, 1 1998. Mine was in 1997. rats.
