Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
MIL, SIL...anyone??
For what? What did they do to you?
I'm waiting for the holidays and DD birthday which is right after the New Year and if she doesn't get treated/spoiled the way the other kids do, I think I may lose my cool
Is that wrong of me to speak up for my child?

I think you're 100% right in wanting to speak up for yourself and the baby.
I have all intentions of doing it ...soon. Right now I'm sucking most of it up out of respect for DH.
But, he sees that I'm coming to a boiling point and he knows its a matter of time.
That time is coming...soon...
...to be continued

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
I thinnk you're totally right. I don't have actual proof but I do feel like because we are farther away DD doesn't get spoiled the same way but maybe it's all in my head. I just know that my mom is always bringing her something, even if its just a little something and nothing ever arrives in the mail from NY. But IL's have always been very fair about things down to the dollar so I could be making something out of nothing.

I'm not getting into details...but many of you know I have spoken up for myself in the past.

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
I have stood up for myself when it comes to my BIL's wife. She's evil and has dedicated her life to pulling BIL away from his family- and she's doing a darn good job. She even has him brainwashed into believing her BS. I'm sure BIL won't even be allowed to display a picture of his nephew in their apartment.

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
Yup. MIL and SIL. My both of them keep saying how much my child is like my SIL. From her mood to the way she looks. Not for nothing my DD is a spitting image of her father, who looks nothing like his sister. It drives my nuts. Also my MIL has a trend of saying she is going to watch my DD and then backs out at the last minute. I have had to speak up a lot when it comes to my DHs family.

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
My only issue with my IL's is the constant supply of candy, cake, pudding - you name it - that they give my kids. Obesity runs on both sides of the family, but yet my MIL couldn't care.
MIL & I had an email exchange 3 years ago where I wrote that because of his childhood habits DH is eating himself into an early grave and that I blame her. I think it'll take DH dropping dead of a heart attack for the point to get across, but even then I doubt it.
I think my MIL wants to be the favorite grandma by buying any little toy or treat they want. In the end my kids love her because she plays with them. She just doesn't get it.

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
This summer when visiting FIL, within 30 minutes of seeing him, I spoke sternly to him. It was the first time I did. But I wasn't sticking up for myself, I was sticking up for Leo. His father was making fun of the way he speaks spanish and I got so angry I could not hold it in. I imagine that when kids come, the same will happen. I can tolerate me being treated wrongly, because they are only mini vacations that I see them. But to hurt DH's feelings or my baby's, I see myself speaking up a lot. I am lucky though, DH does stick up for me quite often with his family.

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
Yup, I've called her out on some really mean lies, the way she treats DH & I and her racist comments. Hasn't really changed anything, but I feel better for getting it off my chest.

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
I did before our wedding but I just had to tell my Dad last week to go scratch because I have had it with the way he treats my daughter. He is on his last legs with her.
Shana I am sorry that you have to go through this. But you are right to stick up for your child if you feel she is being hurt!

Re: Has anyone here spoken up for themselves against the ILs?
Yep-
Everyone always told me that once I had kids- I would stop withholding my thought/feelings...
I could care less now- when it comes to my child/family- I never hold me tongue.... Im sure Im a little overboard at times... But I guess thats one of my "rights" considering IM THE MAMA!!
