Has anyone hung matte board over damaged plaster in their house?
I shouldn't say our plaster walls are damaged, because they're not, they're actually in really fantastic condition. It's the paint ontop of them that is a nightmare. Our livingroom and diningroom are covered in peeling, old yellow and pink paint, and we've spent countless hours now trying to chip down all the paint off the walls. Some spots are down to the plaster and smooth, others are just crackling and peeling, but don't want to come off. From what I can tell skim-coating won't work because the paint is bubbling underneath. So, to the point of my post, I've heard of some sort of matte board that you can hang over plaster walls. It's not sheet rock, but some kind of board that goes on over the plaster. Anyone know what I'm talking about because I don't?!
Edited to add this picture: The yellow is the peeling, bubbling paint, the few clear spots of brown are the plaster underneath. This is from last weekend, more has come off since.

No idea on that, but have you tried an electric sander to get the layers of paint off? You'll need a mask to do this, but it works.

We've thought about that, but it's a really old house and we think we have lead paint. I guess I should just get it tested, and if it's not lead, then we'll sand and if it is lead, we'll just cry The house was built in the 40s and the paint is BEYOND old. So I'm concerned.

we've gutted three rooms already in our house that had plaster walls, our LR still has plaster, I'm just tired of the dust, so I told DH to just put sheetrock right over it!! I'm dying to paint the LR!! I've never heard of the board you're talking about- is it like paneling?

I think it's supposedly like a thinner piece of sheetrock. The guy who came to service the oil burner said that he used it in his house, but I was so busy that I didn't even stop to ask him what he meant. My dad is on a mission to find this because we gutten the bathroom, and I don't think we can handle a large room of plaster walls coming down. The razor sharp metal inside the walls tore everyone's arms and legs and face up

If you just cover the plaster walls with 1/4 inch Sheetrock you will save yourself alot of headaches. If you do this remember to take all window and door moulding off of the walls first and 1/4 inch sheetrock is very fragile. Good luck
