Has anyone re-grouted your bathtub/shower?

Is it a real pain to do yourself? Can you hire someone to do such a small job, and if you can, do you have any idea what it would cost?

We have a 5 foot tub that has tiles from the tub all the way up including the ceiling and it really needs to be done!

I spoke to my dad about this about 2 weeks ago - he said it isn't that bad to do - just tedious

Re: Has anyone re-grouted your bathtub/shower?

We just did it last week. We had to because the grout was so badly cracked that water was getting in and leaking into the basement. We were really worried about doing it but it wasnt so bad...we had 4 people doing it (me, dh, and my parents) and it took about 4 hours, BUT we didn't do both ends of the tub just the long side wall because thats where damage was. Taking out the grout was the annoying part, after that it was pretty easy. It worked too, no more leak in the basement!!

We are in the process of having it re-grouted (carpenter ants behind the tiles put a hold on the job). The same guy did my parents' house, and their shower looks like its brand new even though its 10 years old.
If you want his info let me know.

I have no idea what the cost is however one could accomplish this themselves. It's tedious but possible.

The reason many baths leak overtime is because most people do not apply a grout sealer once installed as well as on a yearly or twice a year basis, not sure which is right.
