Has anyone read or seen "The Secret"?
If so, what did you think? I saw a bit of it last weekend and it seems like some lives are changed by watching it...

Is this is Oprah "Secret" that she had on the last two Fridays b/c if it is I started watching it and figured I was too Dumb to figure out what the Secret actually was. I actually thought I missed something it seemed like everyone was talking in Code. I couldnt figure out what the SECRET was. I wasnt really sure if the "secret" was different for everyone or not....
Very confused to say the least.

That was kinda what I was getting out of it. That it is a way of life. I actually have it on my dvr still and was planning on going back and watching it with a more open mind.

I LOVE the secret, I read it, watched, & I listen to the podcast for at least a few miuntes everyday.

its a little more than just using your imagination, you've got to believe it.
I taken more self help/ sales/ empowerment classes than I can remember & alot of them talk about the law of attraction.
Some people call the highest power "god" "Jesus" "guardian angel" whatever you call it, its the same thing. They reference the bible a few times but they call the highest power the Universe.
I have been practicing it 100% for a few weeks and a few things have happened already. I got the podcast & I love it, I think its the easiest way to listen to it.

My Mom just got the DVD, we watched it over the weekend. I was not impressed. Some of it was insightful I guess, but it's no "Secret" let me tell you.
ETA: I don't want to sound overly negative. I do like the idea if positive thinking, and I LOVE the idea of "gratitude" -waking up every day & being thankful for all the positive things in your life, etc...but is that really a big secret? I just feel this is all stuff we know & this was just a way for Oprah to make more $$$.

I have watched it and here my take...
It's all about positive thinking and how that can change your view of things. It's based on the "Law of Attraction" in that your thoughts attract what you are thinking about. So, if you think bad thoughts or concentrate on all the things you don't want, you get more of that. On the flip side, if you concentrate and think about the things you do want, you can and will achieve them because you are attracting positive things. It isn't like you get your wishes granted but how to train your thought patterns to produce more positive results.

I just got a copy of the dvd and cant wait to watch it.
It really is a matter of beleiving it and living by it. There are so many life-empowerment type courses, my sister is trying to talk me into the Landmark Education forum, has anyone done that? its very similar to this, it also talks about the law of attraction, but its a 3day long intense life-changing course for anyone thats REALLY into this.
Its pretty much a huge group of people discussing their lives, what they can change, how, etc.
I went to an open house type thing, and it was great, but I havent been talked into the 3 day one.
Im very optimistic, so I think you can achieve anything you set your mind to, secret or not

I don't know about this, but from what people are saying, it sounds like a way for some people to make a lot of money. I do believe in the power of positive self talk and prayer, but hasn't this theory been discussed over and over? I think from a psychological standpoint, if you keep a positive mindset, you tend to have a better outlook on life and that helps you have better outcomes than if you are constantly negative and pessimistic.
The fact that Oprah is going on about it doesn't sell me either.

I read something by Esther and Jerry Hicks, the original "secret" people, and while I think it's a great way to live, and I pretty much agree with the laws of attraction, it makes me a little ill to see it used for material things. Which from what I've heard is the focus of the movie, and why the Hicks family detached themselves from the new marketing of the book and dvd.

I have not read it, but I caught it on Oprah.
But, a few years ago I sort of stated ding it on my own, without even knowing it. After being away from a person who only thought of himself first and brought my abilities down, and I started to believe in me, and started learning things happen for a reason and rather than looking to the bad in life, I look to the positive in all situations.
As soon as I did and I stopped feeling bad for myself I took action and went back to school, quit smoking, met my DH, got married, graduated school, & changed jobs all within 2 years.
Life has not been the same and when things are tough, I try to keep reminding myself that only I can make the most of life!
I am very intersted in seeing the actual thing though!

anyone who is interested in The Secret might also be interested in the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle- another of Oprah's favorites- I LOVE this book- i also listen to it on audiobook & it changed my life.

From what I read, Landmark was too cultish for my taste. I know someone who's co-worker is very into it.

I saw the movie and I like the idea behind it. I think the movie was overboard and very materialistic, but I have been trying to keep a positive mindset and see the best in every person I meet and every situation. It is very difficult on some days, but when you start feeling "negative" feelings, I just take a deep breath and try to think about what good can come from them. I would love to go to one of those seminars actually.
