Has anyone read Skinny B----?
Has anyone read Skinny *****? It's supposed to be good, but I'm afraid I'll never want to eat some of my favorites ever again.........

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
I read it back in August. I haven't eaten meat since then. IMO, the advertising for the book is a little misleading. The real purpose of the book, which the authors say themselves, is to tell people why they should be vegan. There are some very disturbing chapters regarding the meat industry and some very graphic/upsetting quotes from people who work in the slaughterhouses.

Absolutely agreed!!!!! I thought it was going to be a light, witty book about weight loss when I picked it up at B&N months (maybe a year?) ago ... I knew nothing about it.
Started reading and
I returned the book.

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
I haven't read Skinny B, but I read The China Study, which also talks about the benefits of a plant-based diet on weight management, as well as health (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and a whole host of other things), and it doesn't go into the nastiness of animal cruelty (important stuff, but not what you're looking for, I'm guessing). I found it fascinating. It gets pretty sciency at times, but really interesting and it changed my perspective about what I put into my body.

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
I bought it in Oct and havent eaten meat since ( except on occasion when someone has cooked for me- even then I just try to get it down)
I still need to work on their other ideas like giving up sugars and switching to whole grains. Overall I already feel better without the meat in my diet - my digestive system has improved greatly but no real weight loss until I can give up the other stuff.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I haven't had any meat since I read the book. I'm still too traumatized from reading those chapters. At least I still have fish. They didn't manage too many horror stories about the fish.

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
I do eat fish too. I totally get sick if I eat any meat products- like if mymom made a roast when we visit. I kinda have to eat it or she gets on my case but I totally feel sick all night.
Thats my proof right there that meat does not belong in our systems.
I think for me that was the easiest part of the diet- I cant stop with sugars though and I'm positive thats whats keeping me from loosing

I know what you mean about the sugars. I tell myself that if I could stop eating meat all of sudden and have done that for the past 6 months, then I should be able to stop eating bad things like sugar, cookies, pizza. Maybe someone should write an upsetting book about sugar.

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
I got their book Skinny B-tch in the Kitch....
it's helpful because it pretty much lays out recipes that aren't too hard for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and since most of the stuff is vegan and sugar free it's a great way to start eliminating some of the sugar and adding more whole grains/protein/etc to your diet. I've been veggie for almost 2 yrs and always have to alter how I make meals and stuff, so this book was really helpful for quick and simple ideas

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
My colleague gave me this book because she was in the middle of reading it and didn't want to read it and be grossed out. so she gave it to me - which is preaching to the choir, since I'm already vegan!

Re: Has anyone read Skinny B----?
I read it two weeks ago and have since given up meat and dairy. I had already been avoiding sugars and non-whole grains.
Since I'm only two weeks in I'm not finding it so tough - more difficult going out to eat with others, especially those who are not supportive.
