Has anyone run in Las Vegas?

I am going to Vegas on Thursday until Monday. I'm also training for a 1/2 marathon in August. I am going to do my long run Thurs. morning before I go, but I still need to do some short runs (3-4 miles) while I'm there. And I HATE the treadmill. I only run outside.

Has anyone run there? I woudl run early in the morning (like I do in NYC). Is it safe? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

You can run on the strip but do it early before the crowds get there and the heat gets to be horrible. Also there are gyms in each hotel with treadmills.

I ran when I was there last fall. I was training for a marathon and ran a few short distances and did a 14 miler all along the strip. I stayed at the Belagio which is kind of in the middle of the strip but ran in both directions and it was completely safe. I went out around 6 or 630am and there other runners out there as well.

Have a great trip!

not the same, but my MIL is in AZ and when I go there I get out really early to run.

be really careful with the heat - there is an article this month in RW about heatstroke - grab a copy for your flight. For short runs, in a heatwave...I might do a treadmill.

Re: Has anyone run in Las Vegas?

I would suggest doing the treadmill but if you really want to run outside then better go at like 6am or earlier because it is hotttt! I used to live there and tried running in 90-100 degree temp and almost died. Bring water when you run.

I never ran on the strip but it could be annoying at points (where they have those little bridge towers that you have to go over in order to cross the street.

Also dont go too far north, it is seedy in old town. If anything I would jump on flamingo or spring mountain and run west toward neightborhoods!

8 is way too late! We just got back 3 days ago and it was 105+ each day. We were by the pool some mornings byy 8:30 to get back in by 11:30 because the heat was intense! I'd say going out 5-6 would be your best bet! Oh, it was very hot at night too!
