thinking about headed there in september since it *should* be away from the hurricane belt.

any advice/feedback? my parents just took the breakaway (NCL) and surprisingly their reviews were not stellar. so im just curious of other's experience

for those that went, can you tell me about the ship and entertainment?

do most ships NOT have nightly entertainment/shows when you are docked in bermuda?

what did you do at night?

My parents just cruised on the BreakAway this past week and they raved about it. Actually, they said the nightly shows were phenomenal and probably the best on ship entertainment they've ever seen. They never ate in the diningroom and instead booked a different restaurant each night - they said the food was out of this world and well worth the upcharge.

They did say, however, that Bermuda was just OK.

I've taken NCL's Bermuda cruise several times, though not the Breakaway. I've always really enjoyed it since you get 3 days in port. Usually we've gone down on the Dawn.

But it's true, most ships won't have as much entertainment or events going on while at port. Everytime I've ever gone though, there's been some kind of street festival or something that we've wanted to go see on the island at night.

We just got back from the 5 day cruise on Explorer of the Seas. We had a great time. The water was a little rough . our sea day coming home.
Overall entertainment was fine. They had two production shows, a comedian, marriage game show and in our night at port an acapela group. Cool thing with RCCL is the ice show too.
Then they have musicians in lounges, casino, parties, night club. We found somewhat of a lack of activities during the day. My husband especially likes to compete in sports activities and there were few scheduled. They do have in line skating, ice skating and rock climbing scheduled at various times through out the week.
Bermuda was pretty, somewhat expensive. We went to a resort on a day pass 1st day and horseshoe bay the second day.
Any questions let me know.

We're going on the Breakaway this Sunday so I'll let you know : ). From what I'm reading though and MIL just came back last week from the same boat is that there is a ton of stuff to do at night even at port. All the shows are running, there are a ton of bars/lounges with music, and alot of people go off the boat to some festivals in Bermuda. The only thing that is really closed is the casinos.

The Breakaway looks amazing! I've never cruised but that boat looks really family friendly and fun. Bermuda itself doesn't appeal to me at all though.

Well Bermuda is in the hurricane region so it could happen.

We have twice sailed (past two Augusts) on Celebrity's Summit. We enjoyed it. Not a big NCL fan but I know people who enjoyed it in the past.

On celebrity there are shows and other activities but the casino and shops are closed the 3 days we are docked. They were open the 3 sea days.

Bermuda is a gorgeous island.

We took Celebrity to Bermuda and had a fantastic time. If you go, book High tea at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. It is outstanding. There is a really nice glassworks and rum cake shop at the docks. Front Street in Hamilton is really nice too. Just be mindful of the small tender times and make sure to be there before they leave otherwise you are going to wait a while. The caves are awesome and really nice. I also loved Horseshoe Bay beach. We also took NCL (Dawn) to the Bahamas and based on that trip we will no longer travel with NCL. Their service has gone down hill a lot since our other trips with them about 10 years ago. It is priced the way it is for a reason. They have cut out so much that the price/value is no longer there for us.

It doesn't to me either, mostly because I like going to a variety of places and you're docked there for 3 days but the more I read about it, the more excited I'm getting! Many reviews I'm reading are from people who thought the same thing but have converted into major Bermuda fans who repeatedly go back.

I took a week long cruise to Bermuda years ago and loved it! We docked in two different ports. There was a outdoor market at one of the ports (Kings Wharf maybe?) The beaches were beautiful and a nice town to walk. The caves are fun. We rented a scooter/moped and explored on our own. I'd love to cruise there again!

I went on RCL to Bermuda in 2002, but it's mostly a fuzzy memory. It is a beautiful island though! We are going with my family on Celebrity to Bermuda in August. I think the Breakaway looks amazing, but my mom and her travel agent felt that Celebrity would be a better fit for us. I believe that the ships still have nightly entertainment when you are docked.

Someone give me the Readers Digest version. Is the Breakaway the same NCL crap as usual or not.

We just got back from the Breakaway last night and it was wonderful. We thought all the food was great (we do not expect 5 start meals though) and DD had a blast. We already booked again for next year. The nighttime entertainment was great, awesome bands, dueling pianos, the nightclub played 80s and 90s music.

We have been on a Disney a few times and it would be very hard to compare as they are totally different experiences. Disney, well it's Disney and gives the big wow factor walking around the boat. NCL to me is more of a resort on the water, lots of restaurants, bars, casino and kids activities but no real wow factor. Both DH and I thought NCLs food was much better than Disney though, hands down.
