Has anyone traveled to Cancun/Riviera Mexico recently with kids?
I have dates, prices and resort all set. DH is hesitant on pulling the trigger because he is concerned with violence. I have been bugging him to go to Mexico since someone on LIF posted about Rosewood Mayatoba. DH is fine with dates, prices and the actual resort. I just need to convince him that we will be ok transferring 40 miles from Cancun International Airport to the resort.
Has anyone flown to Cancun recently?

My sister did in early summer and even drive from cancun to her resort via rental car and were fine.

We went in Oct with our 3 kids who at the time were 4 and 2.5 year old twins. Honestly maneuvering in the airport with the kids n luggage was the hardest part. Our hotel was about 45 minutes from the airport (riveria may) but they stopped to drop off another couple so were were in the van about an hour total. We had each of the kids in the carseat provided by the transportation company for free. The carseats were no where near new but I felt safer with the kids in them than on our laps. The driver was great and even checked the carseats after we did to make sure everyone was buckles safely.
Before we left the hotel we confirmed with Olympus that the van back to the airport would have 3 carseats and the best part was the driver wanted to get us there as fast as possible so they cancelled their other pickups and we had the 45 min ride to ourselves. Like I said we dealt with Olympus tours for the transportation and I have nothing bad to say about them. Have a great trip!!

Went over spring break and traveled about 45-50 minutes from Cancun Airport to our resort. We had no issues. We stopped at a local convenience store to get some beers and kids some drinks for the ride (the store did try to scam husbands who went in - wives stayed in car with kids and locked doors. They rang up too many drinks than we were buying but husbands caught on and drivers backed it up. Not sure we'd stop again but driver assured us it would be fine and cheaper than airport beer.). Before this trip I went a year and half ago and no issues as well.

We just went in July for our Anniversary. Our son just turned 10 months when we went. It was perfectly fine. Agree with pp, airport maneuvering all the bags down flights of stairs was a bit nutty but hilarious! I had the baby in the carrier so it worked well. We had a great time and ended up just staying at the resort since there was lots to do. Have fun!

Dh and I went twice before we had dd and felt safe. We arranged a car service/airport transfer service before our arrival. Once at the resort we felt safe. The one we were at was gated and had guards at the gates.

Btw, most of the violence we hear about is not anywhere near the Cancun area.

My SIL & BIL and two girls (10 & 5) are in Cancun right now. They went last year as well and bought into a timeshare or something. Some all inclusive place. They LOVE it!! They've never mentioned any issues with travel to or from the airport.

We went in Spring.
There was def increased security: armed guards were going up & down the cancun beachfront in trucks I n the sand. Our hotel was very gated off (something it had not been previously). Been to cancun multiple times & it was different this time.
We got a car from a company in the airport to drop us off & pick us up.
That being said, it was beautiful, super cheap (for a really amazing hotel) & we would go again next year.
Btw: if you go, do the pirate cruise. It was a highlight of the vacation: so fun for little boys!

DH said I can just book it but he put safety on me. I obviously do not want to put our family in danger. I have been unable to bring myself to buy the plane tickets and reserve our hotel.
Flights seem cheaper but our hotel is still very expensive (~$1000 per night). The resort looks amazing though.

Just finished booking everything. The plan is to go straight to the resort and stay there. can't wait to go.

Are you staying at the rosewood?? Just went to my BIL's wedding there 2 weeks ago and omg it was awesome!!!!
Btw....no problems whatsoever. We didn't bring our DC but my BIL did....all went perfect!

We always use USA Transportation when we go to Mexico for transfers to the hotel and airport. They are MUCH more reasonable then going through the hotel (we paid $100 roundtrip to get to the Rosewood). Clean cars, excellent, nice drivers who even took us to "7-11" bc we wanted some extra snacks for our room. They wait outside the airport for you. Highly recommend that service.
I never thought twice about my safety at the resort, but the secirity to get onto the property is comforting. They stop every vehicle and ask for ID etc.
We went into town one night and I did not feel unsafe at ALL. Had a blast!
We didn't have our girls with us, but the resort did have some kids and they have a kids club (not sure what it entails though).

I agree. We went to riviera Maya last Summer and had a great time. Like most islands in the carribean, just stay at the resort and you'll be fine!
