Has anyone used Carmax or Carvana?
We like to buy slightly used cars and they seem to have a lot of options. Was wondering if anyone has any experience?
We went to a dealer today and left, annoyed (after making an appt to find a specific car)

Re: Has anyone used Carmax or Carvana?
I bought my current car from carvana 3 years ago. Got a great car at a great price and loved that they delivered it to my front door. I would do it all over again. We paid cash but we did look at their financing just because we could and it seemed fine.

it was a great experience. I felt secure with the 7 day return policy. I did have my mechanic check the car out after I got it and also bought a car that still had some of the warranty left.
I would definitely do it again.

My BIL just did - he had a great experience. He was looking for a very specific car and he found exactly what he wanted.

Just be careful with the 7 day return thing. DMV laws don't allow for that, so I'm not really sure how they get away with even offering that here in NY.

What don't they allow for? You get a temporary registration and then they send you the final one if you keep it.
To the original poster: It is the easiest process and I would never step foot in a dealership again. No haggling, no BS games. You can even get a $500 off coupon on Facebook in Carvana groups.

Thanks - after our experience on Friday, it sounds very appealing.
It was horrible. I liked the car but the process to see it (it took about a half an hour from when my appointment started, for him to figure out what car we wanted to see (which we figured out when we saw it in the lot) and then to find a key... We walked out - I barely even looked at the car as I didn't want to like it because I felt buying would be a fiasco.
We stopped by another dealership - same brand, same extended family later in the day, with no appointment and were treated a million times better - and found out with in 3 minutes they didn't have what we wanted.

Car dealerships are seriously the worst. We buy our cars, so I don’t have to do it all that often, and I STILL dread it. I have no clue why they can’t modernize the process, and make it easier.

Once a vehicle leaves the lot, we aren't allowed to take it back. Its not like a shirt at Macy's that you can just return. Yes, you get temporary registration, but the only purpose of that is to allow NYS DMV time to process the new one. Not for a customer to drive the car for a few days to see if they like it. Additionally, cars are valued by mileage, especially new cars. Dealerships would be getting killed left and right financially if people took new cars and then decided to return them 5-7 days later with a few hundred miles on them.
