Has anyone written a thank you letter to teacher for end of year?
My DS started kindergarten this year WAY behind where he should have been. His teacher has gone above and beyond for him, and he has miraculously made it up to his grade level in reading, writing, etc. He has a special bond with her and she has been so kind and caring with him.
I would love to write her a letter thanking her for all she has done. I was thinking of sending a letter to the superintendent detailing what an amazing teacher she is but I don't know if that was considered ok. Has anyone done that?

I've done it and I've had it done for me as a teacher. I usually write the letter to the principal, praising the teacher and thanking the school for a wonderful year, and i send the teacher a copy.
For me, it's the very best end of year gift.

Re: Has anyone written a thank you letter to teacher for end of year?
My DC's are in pre-school this year so this is the first letter I will write that I will also forward to the principal.
I teach high school so it's very different. When I taught in private school several parents took the time out to write thank you letters. I still have the file and once a year (during a bad week) I'll pull it out to give me a lift.
It is a VERY good idea to forward it to the building principal and supt. In light of all of the new evaluations, it's only beneficial to the teacher to forward such info to administration for their personnel file.
Letters of appreciation are the best end of the year gift.

I have when I felt it was warranted. Here's one I wrote if you need ideas: http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=550646

I can't imagine a greater end of year teacher's gift than a letter like that! Maybe you can do both: one to teacher, one to the superintendent!

Re: Has anyone written a thank you letter to teacher for end of year?
I wrote one last year when my son was in kindergarten. I addressed the letter to the Principal and cc'd the teacher. My rationale was that so often we are very quick to complain about a teacher and those who are exceptional go unrecognized. My son had a wonderful kindergarten experience, and I wanted the teacher to be recognized for having done a good job.
