Has anyone's toddler broken their collar bone?

Kev fell off the bed on Monday (with me laying next to him - he was being silly and before I could grab him - he rolled right off Chat Icon ).

Did anyone's toddler break this (from what I am told it is very common) and if so how long was the recovery? We are on Day 4 and he pretty much is still immobile and in pain (dr said this part willbe about 4 days). Dr said in a week I should see tremendous change but it is so hard to picture right now. They said in total healing time for a toddler is 3-4 weeks but by a week he will be much much better. I have a vacation scheduled soon and dr said not to change my plans. Right now it is hard to imagine him going anywhere.

His attitude is real good - he's a trooper!! It is amazing how well these little ones adapt. He can't walk or move anywhere. He spends 75% of the day in his highchair watching tv, eating and playing small toys on the tray (with one hand).

Thanks.

Thanks for all your well wishes!!

Surprised to see my wild man is the only one - lucky for you all. Something 1 in 200 falls from a bed in toddlers result in a broken collar bone.

They say recovery in adults can be up to 4 months and young children anywhere from 4 weeks to 2 months...toddlers should be less but I can't find anyone who went thru this to verify....most are young babies or like 5 or adults...

Re: Has anyone's toddler broken their collar bone?

I did when I was 2! I'll have to ask my mom how long it took me to recover.

Ironically I broke it again a few years ago - but that time I shattered it and it took about 6 weeks to feel better. The first time it was only a hairline fracture so I am sure it felt better much quicker.

My daughter had this at about 2ish...she was never in really any pain..she has a high tolerance for pain..she had to wear the Yoke thing for 8 weeks and that was it..

It is very common and we dont even know 100% how it happened

Re: Has anyone's toddler broken their collar bone?

My nephew broke his collarbone when he was about two (I remember seeing the little x-ray!). He dove off the couch. He recovered fairly quickly and the pain wasn't too bad. Sorry but I don't remember specifics.
