Has your 10-12 month old experienced this change?

Sydney is now 11 months old. From the time she was 3 months old we have been putting her down to sleep in her crib without so much as a peep. Depending on her late afternoon nap we have always put her down between 8 & 8:30pm. She would never ever cry. Recently, whenever we put her down for the night, she pulls herself up to stand in the crib and cries hysterically. We've tried going in after a few minutes and laying her back down, talking to her in the crib without picking her up, taking her out of the crib and sitting with her for a few minutes in her room with the lights out and finally last night just letting her cry until she gve up and fell asleep....... This was the worst for all of us. Though she finally fell asleep after about 12-15 minutes it broke my heart to hear her cries and not go to her after so long. I felt like a HORRIBLE mother. She's well fed and bathed before we put her down and shows all the sleepy signs. Even keeping her up later yields the same hysteria.

Has anyone else experienced this? Until about the last two to three weeks she always went down without a hitch. Any suggestions for what to do? I really feel terrible every night and can think of no reason for the sudden change.

It sounds like separation anxiety and object permanence is setting in. At about 9 months they realize you are not far away even if you are not in the same room.

Some people suggest layingdown on the floor next to the crib and slowly move away. Good Luck.

Has she just started pulling herself up on her own?
I remember when Jake just starte dto pull himself up, he would get himself up in his crib and then cry. I think he was scared to let go and fall down, so we would go into his room and lay him back down, 2 minutes later the same thingChat Icon In a few days it ended and he learned how to sit down on his own.
Hang in there, it will pass.

Christopher hasn't done this at bed time, but he does it at naps now. We were finally getting a routine of napping in his crib (He hadn't napped in his crib for a long time), but the past couple of days, the waterworks start before his body even touches his crib. No solutions yet for us (other then letting him sleep on us again). I agree that it's some sort of separation anxiety.

Sounds similar to my DD when she learned how to pull herself up in the crib but could not sit down. Thankfully it only lasted a few days.

Sometimes Jesse does this. When I go in his room and see him standing, I hug him (without taking him out of the crib), rub his back and talk to him. Then I lay him down, put his music on and rub his back a little more. He calms down and settles in and he's usually good for the night. He can definitely sit himself down no problem so I think it's just the separation anxiety - just wants to make sure I'm still there.
