Has your performance at work deteriorated...

...since you became a mom?

I can say 100% YES to that. I work from home and take care of my DD and there are days I dont know how I manage to avoid the bullets. Last week in one afternoon I had to divert a car that I had sent to the wrong airport, change a hotel booking as I had put it in for the wrong dates and race after the Fed ex guy as I was sending out the wrong docs!!

I know it could have been just a bad day but I think overall I am definitely not performing up to scratch.

Anyone else feel this way?

Re: Has your performance at work deteriorated...

I have to say it takes time to get your groove back. My career now is better than it was, more busy, and I feel more challenged....all because having a child made me realize that being unhappy somewhere even if the days were shorter, was not worth it.

Hang in there, we all have those days...baby or not...

In the beginning it was tough. I needed to get those minerals back in my brain that pregnancy sapped out.

Yes- I bring work home, which makes it hard. And since DH is home full time, I feel badly not taking over as soon as I get home. Luckily, the school year is almost over, but I worry about the fall and getting everything done.

Re: Has your performance at work deteriorated...

Glad to know I am not the only one. Maybe the fact that my 16mth old hasn't slept longer than 4 hours straight since she was born is making me dizzy!! All I can say is thank goodness for caffeine or I would really not be up for employee of the month.

Re: Has your performance at work deteriorated...

I wouldn't say it deteriorated...but it has suffered a little. I am more busy at work now. I think it's because I used to do a lot from home and now I don't want to. My work quality has not suffered, but the quantity has. I am not so eager to stay late and go in early. Come 5:30, I am out that door!

Re: Has your performance at work deteriorated...

I haven't gone back yet but I can tell you it will FOR SURE. I am a school counselor and I was always the one picking up the slack and doing it all. Those days are over. I don't get paid more for doing everyone else's work. I now have a genuine reason for saying no- thank God! Once I have seen all my students after school, I am out the door. I don't need to win the who works hardest award anymore.

Re: Has your performance at work deteriorated...

Wow am I the only one who thinks it got better? I am much more efficient and know how to prioritize. I focus much more now because I want to get home ASAP. That and now people aren't talking about my belly anymore, it saves a ton of time!

I also think it made me a much better doc because I have a sense of what it's like to be a patient and that patients have lives and family to get home to. Before I didn't think about the family so much, now I always include them if the patient lets me.

not for me.. i'm lucky that the kids are with my mother and i don't have to worry about them. i know things are being done exactly how i would do them with my mother who the kids love.. but when i'm at work it's all about work. i dont have time to think of anything else

I have definitely lost my enthusiasm towards my job since becoming a mom. I am more fixated on getting home to my little girl. I wish I could be a SAHM!!!

Re: Has your performance at work deteriorated...

DEFINITELY! I hate being there and away from him. I am tired all the time and don't feel like doing anything. A lot of times I have to leave early come in late, or bring him in with me and then no one gets anything done because they take turns playing with him.

Also, we are planning on moving in the fall so I know I'm leaving and I really don't care anymore.

I'm pretty much the same, but I do also have some deteriortation as well. I actually answer questions and can't remember what I said 2 minutes after they walk away. I also half read emails sometimes and ask irrelevant questions (e.g. what report are you looking for? when all they wanted was my new contact infoChat Icon) It's totally embarrassing, but I'm exhausted and distracted.
