Hassle Verizon to Optimum...phone # etc
We just moved into our house & wanted to switch to the Optimum triple play..no problem...except we had Verizon at our old apt & wanted to keep the number.
Problem #1: Phone in my maiden name & cable in DH's name. Verizon won't release the number b/c DH's name is different than the one they are showing on record. URRRR
Problem #2: Optimum says there is a problem w/ the modem b/c we still do not have phone service, even w/ an alternate number...all we get is a clicking...yet our internet works fine.
Frustrating....
anyone else go through this?
any way to get verizon to switch the number?
(we have that phone # now coming to the house BUT DH ripped out all the verizon wires b/c we are going w/ optimum)

This is completely different but it shows you how you can get around the system.
We had the triple play and when we moved, Optimum said we could take the phone number with us (DH had it for 20 years, it's sentimental and we will not change it- it used to be a Verizon phone number).
Well, they get to the new house, which is half a mile away from the old house and they say we can't have the number because of THEIR E-911 system -- it was coded for the other side of town and if we were to call 911, it would pinpoint the other direction if we couldn't speak.
I understand, but they lied to us that we could use it and then lied again that "no other company would switch it for us"
I ended up forcing optimum to bring the number to our new house "temporarily" and then had Vonage switch it over. I've had Vonage for a week and have no complaints thus far.
No problem with the name differences with Vonage - in fact, I put it in both of our names. The only thing you will have to do is force Optimum to bring the number over to your new house.
In fact, the guy at Optimum's phone dept told me that he could now switch it back over since it was removed from their system and could be reintroduced.
Whew - that was long but the moral of the story is there is a way around getting your number in.

Re: Hassle Verizon to Optimum...phone # etc
We actually had the reverse problem--we wanted to keep our old number and use Verizon, but after a week of no phone service and no response from Verizon, we switched to Optimum. We could have kept the phone number, but they told us it would have taken another week to transfer the number from Verizon to them. We decided we wanted a phone more than anything at that point and changed the number.
I do have to say, Cablevision has much better customer service, at least in my opinion. Verizon was AWFUL to deal with, and we never did get much help from them.
